Hi - I have just bought a 1999 Yamaha Xv125 Virago for a very good price but with the downside being that it is very noisy.

The seller told me that he had been told that it was most likely the exhaust gaskets.

Knowing nothing about the mechanical side of bikes - I wasn't sure.
I previously had an XVS125 and this virago has less power and takes longer to pull away and get up to speed than the XVS.

The noise builds with more throttle.

Anyone confirm or offer alternative suggestions and maybe offer a guide as to what price I can expect to pay a mechanic to remedy any problems?

Many thanks in advance

It sounds like a chopper with straight pipes and no muffler - but on a 125!!

The noise comes when the throttle is opened - when closed it goes. There is not much power in the bike too.

I got under the bike and felt about and there is air escaping from the box where the pipes come together on the exhaust so it seems to be a cracked box.

would this alone be enough to create this noise?

I got some gun gum to try and patch it up to see if this stops or at least reduces the noise.

Anybody know what size exhaust gaskets go on this bike?

Much appreciated.......

A good one! Mr. Green
Dont go for cheap, not worth it only have to get it done again sooner rather than later.
