Hi again, yet another question, about the zzr this time though!!! As i can't ride it yet i spent my weekends going over to my brothers where its stored to polish and start it up.

This weekend i noticed that there was a noticable amount of water dripping from the join between the end can/ silencer and the exhaust pipes. Now then i'm just thinking that its something to do with the seal on the join??? So i thought i'd take the end can off put some sealant around the join and stick it back on and tighten it up, whats the best sealent to use on this bit of the exhaust?

Also is it normal to have water coming out of your exhaust...i know a certain amount of moisture comes out of the exhaust but how much is okay?

Something i've also noted since the bikes been standing is that the oil check window is showing a degree of milky-ness, is this because it had been standing ( for six months) or indicative of something else?

cheers all

JO

My ZZR drips a bit in the cold from the drain holes in the exhaust when starting her up. Freaked me a little at first when I saw it happen but it keeps the moisture out of the silencer to prevent corrosion.

Use some exhaust jointing compound/putty that you can pick up from Halfords or similar for a few quid, undo the bolts, wiggle the sections apart, coat the inside of the larger section with a thin layer and slide the pipes back together. You should end up with the excess being squeezed out at the join when you tighten the bolts up again so just scrape that off before it sets and clean off any residue.

The milky oil is just water getting in there which foams the oil up. almost certainly from it being sat for a while and a good run out should clear it but if not, drain it down and replace. If you still get it after that then there may be a failed gasket somewhere...

There are drain holes in the cans at the bottom / front, could it simply be from there? very unlikely to be a leak I'd say.
