When showing off my first proper bike to my mates i decided to rev it a bit to put some big grins on their faces my mate said "holy shit, it just blew a flame out the exhaust". My first response was "sweeeet" but now thinking about it, it prob shouldn't be doing that because its unburnt fuel.
Is this normal or its there something not quite right with the air/fuel?

The bike has a micron exhaust and a K&N panel filter fitted but im thinking of putting te standard filter back on because i dont think its been jetted to suit the mods.

Where can i get the bike dynojetted in scotland?'m in the east lothian region.

Thanks,
Si.

Ps. here's a pic of me bike:

If its doing it on the overrun (i.e. when the throttle is closed and the revs are dropping) then it is fairly normal and is OK.

Hi There,

Nice CBR, I like those colours.

To business:

I don't think it will do any serious harm, open exhausts often flame a bit.

How much flame is it? If its a long flame and happens nearly all the time then I'd say that you were running a bit rich.

I'd also say that returning to a standard filter would make the problem worse if anything as it will make the bike run even richer.

I don't think that it will do the bike any long term damage, but I would get the jetting looked at at some point. The other thing with flaming is it tends to knock all of the wadding out from race exhausts meaning that they will sound louder over a period of time.

The other possibility is that your exhaust valves aren't sealing properly, but I can't see that being the case unless there is something very wrong with the bike as the clearances usually tighten up over time...

Maybe someone else with more in depth knowledge can comment on that, but I'd say for now its not a huge problem.

YPE in Bonnyrigg. Did some work on my mates 360bhp Hayabusa drag bike and he seemed pleased enough with it.

Cheers stinkwheel, my apprentice knows the guy that owns the place and he says that he'll phone the dude and get me a spot on the dyno.
