Hey all.

I was intrigued in one post to hear about V-boost which sounded like some kind of added turbo on a bike.

Could someone explain what it is and what bikes you get it on pleeasee Very Happy

Thanks

Jack

Hi

Only on the V Max. Basically a system that joins some of the inlets up at speed, so a pair of cylinders share a pair of carbs.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Shouldn't really add much of a boost, and could probably be done better ways these days. The Vmax has fairly small carbs (35mm I think, 1200 Bandit is in a fairly low state of tune and uses 36mm carbs), which is likely to help low down power at the expense of top end power. Suspect the V Boost just salvages some of the top end power sacrificed by the smaller carbs.

Would be difficult to implement on other bikes.

All the best

Keith

v boost really only works for big cylinders on slow revving bikes, as in the v max. it uses the suction created by one cylinder to force feed the other cylinders.

even though the exhaust valve on one cylinder has just closed, the entering air still has momentum and wants to go somewhere, v boost diverts it to the open cylinder, thereby supercharging that cylinder.

its a bit like the way expansion chambers work on 2 strokes, getting more air & fuel into the cylinder than the piston can pump on its own.

A super charger kit is the way to go for the brave V-max guys! I know that a low boost kit on a V-max will easily make 200bhp! TBH the chassis can't use anymore power than this, and thats being kind!

I think keith was saying it does have some effect on the V-max, but only because of the engine characteristics and nature of that particular bike, and that introducing the system into another, more efficient bike in a higher state of tune would be likely to have no positive effect and quite possibly a detrimental one.

V-boost is fun, about 7000RPM it kicks in and its lovely... sh*t your pants too. Anyway i think the imports are the only ones with V-boost making them 145BHP and the UK bikes tend to be 95BHP therefore the V-boost kit add about 50BHP... i think im right in saying that. That why you get the adverts with full power version on them.

August 2008 and a max will be mine... i hope Very Happy

Standard 'boost kicks in at 6k revs on a standard machine. You can alter that but most opt to fit a kit like the Tboost or Zboost in the UK. Tboost gives the options of off, standard 6k or 3k. Zboost is off or on fulltime. These kits are fun but they drain the already small fuel tank quickly. I can usually get just over 100 miles to the tank of a standard Vmax, riding motorways and some city streets. If the Tboost is set to 3K, it drops to about 70 miles between fillups. Thumbs Down
