Im off to france this chrimbo and want to take the moggy with me cos i dont like the idea of leaving him in a cattery for a week.

Which airlines allow pets (with pet passports) to travel?

Cheers

Hi

Would the cat really appreciate it? Any cat we have had over the years would freak at being taken from its territory, let alone travelling abroad.

All the best

Surely it'll just wreck your holiday having to look after a cat, would surely limit what you do etc.... haven't you got a friend that can pop in every night to your house and feed it? Confused

The cat is hardcore, and we own the house in france so thats cool.
He hasnt really got a territory cos he has never been outside (we live in a 2nd flr apartment).

I just dont like the idea of him being alone for so long.

Best bet would be to get a list of local catteries and go round and visit. Conditions and proces do vary. Then book your moggie in and go and enjoy a holiday.

If you take the cat with you you'll have to keep it indoors, otherwise there's a very good chance it'll wander off.

Thumbs Up

I would feel safer leaving it with someone. My cats have not really been out, they do ocassionaly . one of them does anyway but wouldnt take them away from the house somewhere else as it can upset them. Then they pee and pooh on your cloths to show you. Any relatives you can leave it with or someone that can stay about your place to feed moggy? I would hate to think of my cat sitting missing me but also having it in a cage on a plane would scare the crap out of it. Its only a week anyway.

FYI see this link or this link.
Seems Thomsonfly is DEFRA approved.

Just had a thought. Around our area there is a service where people (company) visit your house to look after your pets while you're away. Plus I've also heard of 'pet sitting' services.

Plus how long have you had the PET Passport? I only ask as this times online article says...

That article also mentions Monarch airlines and examples of cost as rough estimates of £745 to fly a small dog to Spain and back, and £775 to Italy and back.

I went away for 2 weeks earlier this year, I got a friend to come in everyday to feed cats and they were absolutely fine when I got back. Would it not be kinder to leave cat than take it with you?

Well, I've only just got my kittens and don't know much about cats yet, but my young dog has a passport and travels to France no problem, but that's on the ferry. I got the impression you already had your pets passported, if not it's 6 months minimum for all tests to take effect, so may not be possible for this Christmas.

My local vets (who are fantastic) have this site, if it's any help - https://www.petairuk.com/ May be good for a phone call if nothing else? HTH

Happy holidays - it'd be like leaving your best friends at home, so know how you feel!!

Cat would hate it, his territory is your flat, take him out and he will be lost.

To be blunt it is a ridiculous idea that any cat owner should not even consider for such a short time away Rolling Eyes

If he gets out, if he gets lost over there, then how will you feel? How will he get home?

Get a friend in, someone you trust, to take care of him. Trust me, have three cats here.

Don't you have any friends you can ask to move in for the time you're away...I have three friends whom I house/cat/rabbit sit when they go away...

It's a break for me too.

Maybe you should ask around your single mates and see if anyone is up for it!
