help with brakes.(urgent help needed) i want 2 on my bike !

hi got a yammy xs 250 now then i have restored numerous bikes but they didnt have disk brakes
and i have a trials bike (sherco)
but the disk brakes are slight more complicated on them
my question is .....i want to clean the piston and the caliper assembly as the brake is binding
so how do i go about it . iz there any thing i could brake doing it ? if there iz i will just put up and shut up with the brakes(i dont want to spend money doing this !)
obiously i will remove the brake pipe and go to a clear work bench . now what do i do . with us being 2 up on the bike the brakes need to be 100% fully working

If they are really manky and you take them apart, you may have to change the seals, which a) usually cost a surprising amount of money and b) might be hard to get hold of for older bikes.

Easiest way to get sticky pistons out is to dismount the caliper, remove the pads then pump on the brakes until the pistons are just about to pop out (the "just about" bit is easier said than done, so be prepared for a mess). If you have multiple pistons, you'll have to wedge back the ones that move first so the pressure goes to the stickier ones.

Why, does it need replacing, have the seals gone?

If not, in reality you'll be able to pump them out much further than you'd ever use without actually popping them out of the seals. You should be able to clean all the 'working' surface of the piston. Not strictly by the book but involves much less fiddling.

If you're going to pop the pistons out, buy some new seals for it. You can probably reuse the old ones but if you're going to the bother of stripping the whole calliper, you may as well fit new seals at the same time.

If I'm popping the pistons on my two-pot calliper, I pump them nearly out using the brake lever. You'll find that one comes out much further than the other. I put a G-clamp on that one so it can't move any further than 'almost out' and pump the other one all the way out. You can usually then wiggle the first one out.

Of course, if it is a single pot, you can just pump it out.

If you take the calliper off the brakeline, you'll need to get new copper sealing washers or reanneal the old ones.

i assume a pitted-dirty piston is at fault (is it that that is causing the binding ?)
i was going to take it out an give it a rub down with DRY ... wet and dry

No - with binding cleaning around the pistons and checking the sliding pins is the first thing to do. You'll only need to bleed it if the brake lever seems particularly springy or you can pull it all the way back so it fouls on the lever.
