Be afraid.

£900 million over budget. It's six fucking years away yet.

Only the politicians don't realise this country is going backwards. As if this shit hole and the wankers running it can handle an Olympics.

Head for the hills, disaster and embarrasment is imminent.

Yeah, can't wait for my council tax to go up to pay for something I am not even vaguely interested in.

Commonwealth games take as much planning as a mini-rideout compared to the Olympics.

It's a UK wide thing the Olympics, saw the plans for the harbour at Portland Bill for the sailing events a couple of weeks back.

900,000,000 will be pennies by the time it happens.

By then the lottery will have been raided, London Council tax will have doubled, and maybe a couple of pennies on income tax...

Enjoy!

I may have to come back home to see this one tho, might be a laugh (A very expensive one)

I've always wondered with these big projects going over budget.

Why do they not get quotes and hold the building company to it ?

I was thinking about doing that overland trip to Botswana I wanted to do, then Smile.

Renting the house out does seem like a good idea - especially being a similar distance away right on a direct motorway to London Smile.

crock of shite Evil or Very Mad

so many things wrong, so many things to sort out, such a shortage of money in places, prisons overcrowded to bursting point, transport a shambles, pollution apparently killing the world, thousands of illegal aliens arriving in our country by day and not a thing being done about it, a government falling to pieces, public confidence across the entire country must be at a record low....

but no, bollocks to all this, lets host the chuffing olympics

in the scheme of things, life and the world in general, why is so much importance put on such a load of bollocks, in my opinion, lets have a running and jumping competition when we've addressed real life first shall we? just an idea eh

the narrow mindedness of those involved, all those who promoted it, just not caring about anything but getting the UK committed to hosting something it cant possibly cope with, or have the resources for

to be fair this can be applied to any number of things, people only care about what is important to them etc

but i think the 2012 olympics go above and beyond all ridiculousness

it makes me so angry

Amen Brother!

Preach it Brother!

It sickens me to see a constant stream of snivelling nobodies on the TV, trying to convince me that my hard-earned dosh should be spent on a 'spectacle' that bores me to tears and is unlikely to end famine, bring about world peace, help us withdraw from Iraq, reduce crime or bring down the cost of living. It will, however, make my council tax rocket up, my standard of living fall, and clog up my capital with lots of annoying foreigners who intend to watch a load of lycra-clad weirdos at my expense.

The most infuriating thing is that there is no option, no debate, no chance to say "hey, I don't want this to happen at all".

Such is life though really!

How many referendums can you personally remember taking part in? I can't remember any going on during my lifetime, even though I wouldn't be able to vote. Yes there was the referendum of 1976 on the joining of the European Community. But the only discussion that goes on about national events goes on in the commons.

It is exactly why we will only ever live in a partially democratic state. If people start resisting paying higher council tax for the Olympics, it is probably the only way the Government would reconsider doing anything, but by then it will have spent too much money to abandon anyway! Smile

We're supposed to be getting a congestion charge by then. Wouldn't surprise me if thats not just another way of funding the olympics.

Has anyone here actually had any experience of the area where they are buliding all of this?

reduce crime

I think in the long term in that area it may do just that.

Sounds like they're using the same builders that did the Scottish Parliment building.

It came in only 1000% over budget, a mere snip at £414,000,000.

Hardly stands out like a sore thumb at all.

I'm guessing they have inflated the estimates to take care of over-spending, yet it will come in massively over-budget. Can this government get anything right? Rolling Eyes
