250 war

Im thinking of buying a 250 racing replica when my insurance money comes through from my nsr

at the moment the 3 that intrest me are nsr250, rs250 and rgv250

anything i should know that would tip the scales in favor of one? they all appear specced around the same.

Rs250's seem much easier to get hold off as the rest are all import, while the rs is still being manufactured (easier to get parts) still i dont trust apprilas and id have to get a new paint job so no one recognises it

I already have a zzr250 that will do the job for long distances with a rock stable 100mph, just want something cheap and light i can throw into corners on short journeys anything bigger then the 250's starts to get expensive to buy and insure

NSR I dunno much about. RS250 ferkin bonkers but a bit fragile, RGValso ferkin bonkers but even more fragile.

The NSR would set you back a packet, especially if you want an mc28 (last model with pro-arm)
They're the most reliable, parts can still be gotten cheaper than for any other 250 2 stroke due to the huge popularity of the bike in japan.
Theres about 15-20 online stores that specialise in custom and standard parts at pretty low prices.
And it can be tricked out to be faster than any of the rest of 'em.
But.... the major point is that you're not likely to see a 28 or even 21 for that matter in good condition without spending in the region of 3000 sterling.
On the plus side, they don't lose their price, each year they get more and more expensive, so you'll make your money back on a sale if you can find one to buy.

rs250 is still being made and can be had new for around 5.3 grand!
nsr and rgv must be imported and they are massively expensive.

been offered an rgv250 for 1.3 grand k 1993 reg think i will grab it

Honda now do a body kit for th NSR to make it an RCV replica.

Nice, although it does cost as much as the ferkin bike!!

I don't think that RS250s and NSR250s (the MC21 and MC28 anyway) can be described as cheap!...once you've acquired the bike, the maintenance costs will be immense!

...But I have seen good 6-7 year old (1995 - was it really that long ago!?...woah...) RS250s going for around £1500...so they don't really cost that much, but as I said, if you want it to work well, then it needs regular servicing...

But they will be ideal second bikes!

As i said, if you buy an nsr, you can get cheaper parts for upkeep than any of the other 250's.
A full fairing set from honda, painted in rossi or whatever colour you so please, will only set you back about 500 dollars. Whereas the original honda fairing (looks alot less appealing) will cost 3500 dollars for a full set these days.
Tyga also supply the bits,bolts and pieces you'll need to keep your machine running.

Yes they are expensive, unbelievably rare, but quicker than 400's (stock models are quicker over a 0-60, theres no questioning this!!) and look a whole lot better.

It would prob be better to get a VFR400 or something simular...

No Tony...I think that Matt is just looking for a mad weekend toy!...he already has a ZZR250 for "normal" biking...

...nothing gets madder than a 2-stroke supersport 250!...although Ride said that a CBR4 is supposed to be pretty manic...?

Yeah, this bike will just be used over the weekends for fun and games, my zzr when its back from being fixed! will be fine for my commuting

Think the best bet is to compare rgv's and rs250's in the 1.5grand - 2.5grand area, should be able to pic up on nicely serviced and cheap

There should be loads of RSs and RGVs for £1.5k - £2.5k!...have fun looking, and I'm sure that you have enough knowledge to make sure that you're not sold a dud...

for me theres only one-the rs250 and i will have one(despite the fact there impossible to get here!)
the rgv is a few horses short, but has razor sharp handling aswell
its meant to be a bit more unreliable too
the nsr i think is about the same speed as rgv, with the rs quicker than both, nsr loses out in handlin a bit due to front standard(not usd) forks
they all rule, with nsr u get more reliablity, and tonnes of things u can do to it(multiple sites wih multiple kits etc)
the choice is yours!

NSR is the fastest outta the 250's but they are very expensive and difficult to come by. The RGV is still quick but the slowest out of the RS, RGV, and NSR. The RS250 is the fastest, it uses the RGV250 engine from Suzuki, but has different slides in the carbs, and the bike is lighter overall.

The old Kawasaki KR1S was always known for being pretty quick. It was way overgeared and in very favourable conditions it could reach 138mph which made it the fastest 250 in its time. I reckon that the current RS is probably a shade faster, and no doubt its handling is miles ahead of the KR1S but it weighs a bit more. I reckon that the NSR (mc28) is one of the best looking 250cc bikes ever. but its still gotta be the most expensive of the lot.
