You should have got the Kwak! A litre sports bike will sting massively on insurance as you are finding out.

How old are you?

Maybe it's worth adding additional security? Is it going to be stored in a garage.

Well she's a corker!

As G implies, it may be worth ringing round all the insurers and finding out if you can get a good deal. There are a couple of companies that claim to specifically cater for young riders on big bikes... But I do think that you will be lucky to get a "reasonable" quote.

how the hell can you have an R1 at 20? unless it's restricted? if it is it's a waste, if it's not then why're you bothering getting insured, you'll only crash and void the insurance anyway.
seems like one hell of a peen extension anyway.

Pass your test when you're 17 and the restriction only lasts two years so could be on a '98 R1 legally on your 19th birthday.

As has been said you've just got to do lots of ringing around until no insurers will go any cheaper. Will take a couple of hours to do, but the amount you should be saving means its a very worthwhile couple of hours.

Yeah, I think people need to use the forum search function to realise that you have to ring around to get the best quotes. Online quotes always make themselves out to be cheaper, but they aren't.

Give up Jon, it's not going to happen. People are lazy, lots of people are stupid, but unfortunatly no matter how lazy or stupid someone is they can quite easily make their way onto the internet and BCF.

They don't even need to use search cos there's an insurance thread pinned in new bikers forum. Wink

Hmm, you better ask R1 Lad, he aint been around in ages, but he had an 03 R1 insured just when he was 19... and wrote it off if i remember correctly. He hasn't been online for more than a year. But it CAN be done, and i think he was paying £1200 TPFT 2 years NCB in a surrey area?
