Hi All,

I am almost out of my restriction period, and want to get a new bike. After riding a bandit 600 for 2 years I am looking to possibly getting a new shiny sports bike. I am looking for a bike on 0% finance, so I dont need to spend all my savings at once.

The bikes I like are CBR600rr, Ninja 636, Daytona 675, GSXR600, and R6. which pretty much covers all of the sports bike in that range, what is available on 0% finance, I do ride all year round so I want something that is going to last me, and a bike Im not going to get bored of too quickly.

Thanks for your help,

Jon

The sportier you go, the more awkward it's going to be to ride all year round Sad

FWIW this link on the On Yer Bike site has details of Yamaha 0% finance bikes available until end March 2007 (scroll down to see it).

I was going to say why not ride your bandito derestricted for a while.. but then I realized I'm the only person who left the washers in...

3weeks to go for me... I'm thinking older 2002-2003 fazers/r6's cbr6's...

don't like the whole finance thing ontop of uni costs at over 7k of a debt a year plus paying off a bike.

Also with a new bike you've got to run it in, you'll lose a shed load leaving the show room, really it needs to be serviced at a dealer or it really will be worth nothing.

How do you know you want to keep it for 3 years (or however long credit is)?

Over summer if you worked your arse off you could earn enough to buy one of last years 600's that someone's selling to get a new toy.. will have bugger all miles, have all the extras and already lost alot of money.. lower sting for you.

Just view of course

These might well be the bikes you like, but so does the road salt. Mr. Green

As Simple says... Why not just get the Bandit de-restricted. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your input everyone, i was worried about the riding in the winter messing up a sports bike. I do also very much like the 1200/900 Buells. Do these stand up better to the winter months, I much prefer the sound of them, and they look as nice, the only thing then would be the insurance on over 600 cc as im only 20.

I would keep the bandit, but i just feel like a change and something a bit newer and shinier!

Thanks

Jon

Don't ride one through winter for the sake of your wallet, your heart and your sanity. They are very very good bikes but the finish on some models is a little suspect.

Mine seems to be OK compared to my old SV650, but it has got rust on some of the bolts in the engine shock absorber mounts, and on the bellypan.

And this is the first bike I've owned which I haven't ridden year round.

Plus, although CC isn't that much of a factor as they make less power than most supersport 600's, the insurance costs can be high unless you're nearly old like me.

Don't go for one unless you are an enthusiast would be my reccomendation.

Additionally, Suzukis don't do winter all that well... my SV looked very sorry indeed when I sold it, and I had it for 18 months from new. It wasn't going to get much worse, but if you like having a shiney bike I'd reccomend something like a Honda Hornet if you want to go nekkid.

Actually, I'd probably reccomend a Hornet or old shape Fazer to anyone who wants their first big bike. Including all those people who go out and buy GSXR's ZX's CBR RRs etc.

Saying that, I'm not against SV650's in any way, they are really nice bikes as long as you can put up with the starter motor cover looking like a photograph of the moon!

{edit} I wrote a slightly too generic post there. If you have a bandit, I'd say you are ready for a sportier bike, except you are on a restriction anyway. I do frown upon it but perhaps if your restrictors befell some sort of accident you might be happier on the bandit!! Otherwise a CBR600 of any age might serve you well, similarly an R6, as these two bikes seem to be built very well {edit}

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Do you care about looks or performance/fun more?

The only bike I've seen new on 0% that at all seemed like a 'decent' deal was when they were doing the ZX6 for £5k 0% over 3 years.
Generally, I'd reckon it's best to go second hand for at least a year or two old bike with a bank loan.

Of course, if looks are the major factor, buy the bike you think looks the best Smile.

If you use your bike for commuting, I'd be tempted to keep the bandit or get another 'cheap' bike for commuting, then get a shiny bike for 'fun' - if need be you can use the other while one is being serviced/repairs etc.
