Im very curious in this day and age of insurance companies not accepting responsibilty and liability. Thinking

In genuine cases yes but there is now the thing of staging a crash in order to recieve compensation.
I somehow have the feeling the origional poster was looking to compensation as an earner rather than to cover for lack of earnings and injury.

then i would guess if the accident was not your fault, you could start legal proceedings and file for loss of earnings, that is providing you have lost any?
are you on stat sick pay now?

5 broken ribs, ruptured spleen, lacerated lung, fractured wrist, written off bike, 2 x smashed mobiles, uninsured driver, had a bit to drink, 6 months off work

£20 000.

My car was shunted from the rear, back in 1999.
Only had whiplash and a few aches etc, but the car (probably only worth about £1k) was written off.

They took their time but I eventually had £3500 out of it

Broke my tib & fib had 3 operations on it and have a fecking big scar on my leg, my bone was nearly poping out Sick

so had to have metal plate and pins.
Driver was 81 and blind in right eye and admitted full responsibility.

Took ages for me to recover

I got roughly £12k plus what ever my bike was worth can't remember how much though

How does that break down financialy?
The bike.... £5K?
Set of bike clothing £1K?
Six months off work £12K?
Two phones £150?
I make that a couple of grand in actual compensation for injury on top of reparation for damage.

Bike 5k
Loss of spleen 12k
Medication 5k
Other injuries & misc 8k

The actual pay was 30k but the out of court settlement meant i had to pay everyones fees.

You were lucky to survive the spleen, it does not take long for you to bleed to death.
I guess the money is secondary to surviving. Did they pay your lack of earnings or did your company pay it and put in an auxilary claim against them?

Wages - i was still paid for being off - that was nice. Smile

Spleen wise - i had the accident outside a paramedics house which was handy.

good, make sure you claim for every thing so you don't end up out of pocket, i think you can even claim for bus tickets to the doctors and physio too.
considering bus prices now it's worth it Thumbs Up

In my case it was 1 op and a 5 day stay in hospital. Thats to date anyway.

6 physio sessions, and umpteen appointments.

Not including my forthcoming stay in hospital I'm looking at 18k including 6.5k lost earnings. But, as that doesnt take into account the fact that Ive got to have another op, it'll be more than that for final payout.

Tehy agree on 30k but then i have to pay for my solictors fees and costs etc..... meaning i end up with 20k.
