Something happened to me today which really pissed me off.

My bike is off the road while I fix it, so I haven't much choice in what I can use for getting around, only really my little car. I've only been driving it for a week or so, having passed my test in December. I'm not a hopeless driver, but I'm obviously really inexperienced and really don't want to push it.

In my 2-1/2 years of riding I've never had anyone shouting, swearing and beeping at me that I've known about*. In a week of driving my car, the first person to have road rage at me just happens to be a biker! It was an impatient cock on a new R1 with little blue led things on it, shouting, swearing, flashing his lights and beeping at me just because I'm taking my time so I don't have to nail it to get onto a busy roundabout. Rolling Eyes

No wonder people have bad impressions of bikers - if the statistics are similar to my experiences, there's a far higher proportion of angry bikers than angry drivers. Not impressed; talk about letting the side down. Thumbs Down

*That is, except when I've deserved it for dodgy overtakes.

Some fat pillock was wandering down the road last night as I was driving towards him and he wandered right into the road in front of me, as if he was playing Chicken! (This guy was about 40-50 years old).

I of course drove around him, but furious I turned the bike around and went back and shouted "ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?" as I drove past him again, and he didn't even respond to me at all.

Either he was trying to piss me off and shit himself when I came back to confront him, or he was pissed as a newt

no, it's just some people are arses.

Me and my missus coming back from my Dad's in Fareham, a very., very busy roundabout, traffic flying round, I was waiting for a safe spot to pull out, and people started hitting their horns in their cages behind me. Just flipped them the finger, and bided my time, until it was safe to pull out.

I gave a woman driver the finger yesterday when she failed to give way at a traffic calming chicane and nearly took me out.

I also gave someone a complete bollocking for pulling out on me at a roundabout causing me to swerve into oncoming traffic.

Lets be frank, sometimes people deserve it.

Some people are wazzacks, no doubt.

However, I do take issue with this point, it might be semantics but...

"...if the statistics are similar to my experiences..."

well, thus far, all you have related to us, is your one experience with someone on a bike, giving you grief in your car...

hardly conclusive is it?

If someone did that to me when I was in the van I'd just whack it in reverse. Rear view camera means i can get within like 2" of objects without hitting them Cool Should put the shits up any pricks behind me Laughing Laughing

Of course not. Mr. Green

Just it gave me an idea of why people get so pissed off with bikers being rude. The impression I get of a lot of bikers is that they see themselves as superior to the car drivers. I know, I've been like that.

IMO bikers can intimidate car drivers without really meaning it. I'm thinking those overtakes that, as a car driver you couldn't make it, a bike can do easily. Applies to the car being overtaken and those that suddenly see a bike coming towards them in their lane.

There's also when a bike flashes past you filtering through traffic. Can be a surprise when something appears at the side of you. Certainly a WTF moment followed usually be a bloody bikers comment.

No excuse though for hassling other drivers. I know I'd only pull out when I think it's safe for me. So I shouldn't be surprised if other think the same, and have a different opinion of a safety margin.

Thumbs Up

...held up an undercover police bike...shit driving!...

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Police always congratulate themselves on their advanced driving/riding ability and forward observation (or when vehicle testing Wink). So therefore if police held up can only attribute it to shit driving/forward planning by them Rolling Eyes Wink

FWIW blue leds do not a police bike make. Although they can make forward progress a tad easier (or so I've heard, honest officer) Very Happy

Thumbs Up

impatience is a bad part when it comes to riding, as you know you can go everywhere a lot quicker so don't want to be held up.

like the vast majority of every one who rides, i get incredibly annoyed when a car driver does something that could result in my death. that's when they get shouted at.
