I think it's time for me to think about getting a better backpack, but one specificially for use for the bike. My budget's about 50 quid, and i know kriega ones are pretty good, but would want one that'll fit my lid and possible has a laptop slot and a waist strap. Anybody have any good recommendations? It's just for day to day use to and from uni but occasionally might want to take my shopping in it.

I don't have one, but I've heard good things about the Knox Aeropack. Expands to hold a helmet and is designed not to bugger up your shoulders.

Meh, I still maintain wearing a backpack on a bike is asking for trouble. The tankbag/backpack hybrids are cheap and well worth it.

I DO have a tankbag/tailpack/Pannier set from oxford, but they're not what you say "day to day" practical for when you're riding your bike and just want something to carry around. My oxford sport tankbag its a bitch to unzip off its base, and it's not the most comfortable of backpacks. I just want something i have on my back which would normally hold a pencil case, a folder, couple of text books. or during a ride, some waterproofs, a bottle of water and first aid kit. The tankbags are a bit cumbersome in town. I'm still tempted by the kriega but unsure if they're big enough for the lid. I've heard about the knox being reasonable.

While agreeing wtih Tarmacsurfer about using other methods where practical........ I have done literally thousands of miles wearing the Knox Aeropack. It's comfy as fuck, holds plenty of stuff, is really adjustable so can be made to fit really well, and after having it for 3 years plus and riding in all weathers it still looks new. Should it die, I'd buy another one. Thumbs Up

yeah

but for little bits and pieces you dont need a specialist motorbike rucksack that you want to spend £50 on

a £10 one from millets is fine

I do quite a bit of photography and take my camera on my bike so I've got a Lowepro rucksack. Its made specifically for cameras but its great for carrying everything else. I took a few pic's to give you an idea.

The velcro inserts give you quite a bit of flexibility, means you can build your bag how you want it and change it when ever you want. Its also quite good that its got both the waist and chest straps. Think they retail at about £70 but thats about the same as a good bike rucksack.

That knox one is awesome, my flatmate has one and I'm always borrowing it. It has a special compartment to carry a spare lid in the bottom of it, which won't fuck your back if you come off. I'm gonna get one when I don't have his to pinch.
