Hi
My GPZ500S, D6 model has just hit 10,000 and I've been advised it would be worth adjusting the tappets and balancing the carbs. However, the information I have found via Google is rather offputting and the info on the tappets is just unreal.

Can someone have a look at the links and advise please? I may just end up sending it to the garage but would rather try and sort it myself.

Tappets: https://www.visordown.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-130579.html

Carbs: https://www.carbtune.com/inst.html

Both seem really complicated. Please note I haven't bought a carb balancing kit yet.

Thanks in advance!

Carbs are easy if you have the vacuum guages. Start and warm up the bike.

Remove the tank, attach the guages to the vacuum stubs. Fire it up and adjust the balance screw (inbetween the two carbs on the throttle cable rocker assembly) until the vacuum is equal on both. Then adjust the idle speed using the idle speed adjuster knob (black plastic knob under the carbs.

They are probably not far out so there should be enough fuel left in the float bowls to do this. If you run out of fuel, you might need to rig up a temporary fuel tank.

Actually, just buy a workshop manual. There's pictures and everything.

Tappets are pretty simple too but you'll need some angled feeler guages because some of the oil piping gets in the way and stops you using straight ones.
