It's started to piss me off while riding around on my Aprilia RS125 that my friend on his Husqvarna 125 can pull the most awesome looking power wheelies whilst my bikes stays flat on the floor even though mine has more power Embarassed .
So my question is can 400cc sports bikes (specifically the VFR 400 NC30) do proper power wheelies and if so how easy/hard are they? thanks... Very Happy

Yes. It is easier to clutch it up though. Same can be said for your RS. Ride along nice and slowly pull the clutch in just to biting point, give it a load of revs (to about the 7-8K range) let go of the clutch and hold on. As the front wheel comes up be ready to reduce throttle and cover the rear brake. If it comes up too quickly for you dab at the rear to bring the front back down a little.

I wouldn't reccommend wheelies though. They may look cool if successful but you look a right wally if you end up on your ass. Even the experienced stunters get it wrong and it hurts......

And, if you're worried about that, I'd advice not riding your bike at all.
As with other aspects of biking, if you're sensible and take it a little bit at a time, you'll be fine. Generally be a twat or try and get faster too quickly and bad things will happen.

The sports 400s, especially the high-geared VFR won't power wheelie very well. However, they should clutch wheelie fine and that's generally a better technique to use.

Fuck off with all your easy to clutch-wheelie shit.

I've been trying to learn it on mine for the past few months and all I have to show for it is slight whiplash and strained arm muscles.

I'm giving up.

Wheelies are for posing gayboys anyway, that's what me mam told me. Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger Sad Brick Wall Hand Middle Finger Middle Finger

Not even sports 600's will really powerwheelie that easy, you really gotta give it some, even then its not that impressive.

You need one of these.

My Hornet power wheelies in 1st at about 20mph, then i can knock it into 2nd and hold it to about 80 cos i've not got the 3rd gear change sorted yet, can clutch it up in 2nd at about 40 too. I love it Mr. Green

But its not a question of how easy a bike is to wheelie, its all about your technique.

Not true - stick it in first at 8k~ and pin the throttle... front comes up good and proper for me every time.

You were probably thinking that wheelies are more dangerous than riding around normally.

While, if you're not foolish, I'd say the opposite is true.
So; you're doing them in a good environment where there's a good surface, no oncoming traffic, pedestrians, or the many other dangers that face you riding on the road.

So, I'd be worrying more about taking your bike down that twisty country road with those blind corners a lot more than trying a few wheelies in an industrial estate.
Yet I don't see people advising others not to do this.

your mate on the husky can do power wheelies better than you because of his gearing, no doubt his will have a lot of bottom end pull but will top out at 70mph ish.

if you do want to wheelie your RS then look on the renthal website and order the largest rear sprocket they do for your bike.

The RS still won't be an ideal wheelie bike.

The husky I'm sure will have a much better range of power throughout the revrange. I've got a feeling it may actually make more top end power than the RS too as I believe the engine's a competition enduro one.
It's also got a higher centre of gravity, which helps.

Thanks for all the help so far guys , this is his 'Husky' & my 'Prilla':

His isn't faster at the top end, we've had a little test to see! Very Happy (on a track of course officer). Having seen the agility his bike seems to have makes me almost question whether to buy a Supermoto after I've done my test however I've always been into sports bikes rather than 'S.M's'.

let a bit of air out like lukes last pic for more contact area and more grip. my 400 would wheelie off the throttle, but i can clutch ut up now, i didnt used to because it sent my wheel into a moving burnout lol Thumbs Up wheelies are fun and are dangerous if you over do them and your tyres, clutch, cables, HS bearings suspension dont like them.

I dont have much advice on 400's, cos i went from 125 to a 6. But My XR used to pop up easy enough, and i could hold it for about 10-15 feet...but i didnt wanna break her! lol luckily, never had to replace anything on her.

My zx6, well, she clutches up really well, its just me being a bit scared of overdoing it. But i've had her almost vertical, full on fucking shat myself, about 20/30 feet, and i landed it pretty hard, braked and stopped, and had to vacuum my balls back out my body lol but, my bro said it looked pretty impressive.

Just yesterday, bro on the back, and it power wheelies fucking amazingly Very Happy could have held it for ages, but there was a corner coming up Sad

ANyways, for the 400's, one of the fastest riders i know and ride with couldnt wheelie his 400 for shit Thumbs Up finds it a bit easier on his TLR though Razz

400s are hard to wheelie, fronts are pretty heavy and they have no torque atall.
I've managed to get my wheel up a little but flawing it, then flicking the clutch at around 7/8k.

theres plenty power to wheelie a 400, its how you do it. but a 400 is harder to wheelie than a 600 or a 1000, 125s wheelie because there light and if you sit on the back of it it will go up easily.

on my zxr 400 l, dump the clutch at about 9000rpm, yank the bars and up she comes! Be prepared to buy new, chains, sprockets, head bearings and fork seals tho!

Personally i prefer stoppies, much more fun!

In my years of riding mopeds, Crossers and sports bikes. Ive actually never seen anyone wheelie an RS125. Thinking

As for 400 wheelies. As luke said. They will come up on clutch in first gear and first gear only without any special gearing.

My Viffer 4 will pop up at anything from 15/20mph to about 30/35mph.
Although I dont think they are that good for wheelies. I found my NC29 (CBR400) better as it had a quick roll on response than the V4.

The NC29 would power wheelie if you were standing on one of the pillion pegs. Smile
Viffer needs clutching up.
