I have read a few previous threads on paddock stands, however I wondered what peoples opinions were on these specifically?

ebay paddock stands

I know you 'get what you pay for', so would these be worthwhile for the money, or a false economy piece of crap?

Opinions gratefully received Thumbs Up

i've got a micron stand, and thats a bit badly designed for front wheel removal, part of the stand gets in the way, so i need to jack up the bike to undo the spindle. no such issue on my harris stand.

so just need take something like that into consideration as well when choosing a stand

I have that rear paddock stand, the spring loaded legs are difficult to get used to. Basically if you don't force one of the sides fully shut before putting the stand under you'll either get caught on your rear disk or your rear sprocket.

When you get used to using it, it is good and sturdy, its just not the easiest thing to get on and off.

Don't have a front stand however.

i have the cheap ebay generic one for the rear, i had the same problem with the springs so i removed them and now have no probs at all! it might not be as strong as a micron but at the price and the ammount i use it it does a fine job, i can get by bandit on it in under 30 seconds!

I use the Micron Rear Super Stand and the Micron Front Super Stand. They do the job just fine and I have no problems with either of them.

I know what curryfishball means when he says that they are not always great when removing your front wheel but in fairness every stand has got its achilles heel. And how often do you need to remove your front wheel? Me I've only ever needed my front wheel out once in three and a half years and it was not exactly hard to suspend my bike in the air without the front stand anyway.

If you can hang about a while you often get pretty good deals on paddock stands at bike shows. Obviously this is better than paying full price for one. Very Happy

I have a set of those stands (bought from a Honda dealer.

I find that they catch on the caliper mounting bracket on my SP1.......even though they seem sturdy enough, I don't really trust the bike on them (keep thinking that i will hear crunching plastic as the bike drops off Shocked ). I only really use them for cleaning the front wheel.......I wouldn't fancy taking the wheel off (maybe am too paranoid?)

I have no qualms about using my Micron stands for extended periods of time or for when I am doing maintenance. Sometimes my bike will sit on its stands for a month or two without a problem. Very Happy

Ive got a set of i think (motrax) paddock stands that i bought for £45 from bikerz in s-o-t, they are really good quality and the bike was very sturdy whilst on them.

Highly recommended Thumbs Up

I have a set. They are a bit cheap and mine weren't supplied with enough bolts so I had to buy some extras. Told the shop but he wasn't really interested. I can't remember who on Ebay I got them from.
I have used them successfully enough (without springs) on my TZR250, including removing both wheels. I did however use rope through the beams of the garage as back up.
So in summary as cheap as chips and ok for a light bike.
If I had an expensive bike over 400cc I'd be looking for better stands. Thumbs Up

How long dose it take you guys to get the bike on and off one stand? Do you use it daily?
I would like one, but the bike is out the back locked to a post and isnt that safe with wind blowing about.
Just not sure if its worth my whils to get one?

I could get my zxr400 on the stands by meself in about 2 mintues, It was a bit tricky at first untill i got the technique right.

I only used them for cleaning the bike, chain maintence etc and when i went away to uni i left the bike on both stands to keep it off the cold garage floor Laughing

Its pretty simple to get a bike onto paddock stands with a bit of practice. If you do a search there is many a thread with the various techniques explained. Also I wouldn't leave a bike outside in the wind on a paddock stand. Better to use the side stand I think.

My brother has that pair, they seem ok and they do the job on his SV. Don't seem terribly well made but as said you get what you pay for

I guess it depends on the bike. Tbh i found the micron one is strained under the weight of my zxr but then they are quite heavy bikes, they are probably fine with 160-180kg bikes.

Instead of those 2 you'd be better off with a pair of 2nd hand micron ones. They usually go for about £10-20 on ebay.

I usually laugh at the people who buy over priced biking items because most of the time it's just for the name or the pose value. But in this case i think the extra money for the Harris one is well worth it.

I have exactly the same rear stand but a slightly different and better made front one. I have used both (no springs on the rear one for me either) on the Bandit 1200 (225 Kg) without any problem at all, the front wheel was OK to remove too, so it's probably down to the individual bike.

I reckon it's a good deal. Although I got the front stand off a mate and the rear free with my hydraulic bike ramp.

Cheers

I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to leave it on paddock stands whilst its windy as you'd effectivley be raising the bike's center of gravity.

I got mine for about £80 from ebay, i know it lifts the rear but it's also meant to lift the front if you put weight on the rear.

i bought my rear stand and front stand from Demon Tweeks (just the basic model, cost about £25 for rear and £27 for the front).
i assembled them as per the instructions, but found them awkward to use using the springs supplied ( the cups were far to close). so i removed the springs and set the cups up to the bike, marked where the new hole was needed. then i drilled new holes in the swing arm support cups' shafts to allow me to customise the position of the cups. i found that i could remove the springs from the rear stand altogether, but i was able to use the springs on the front stand. this makes it so much easier to use the stands now. no more arsing about adjusting the cups each time.

if you are looking for some new stands, then if you can wait check out the NEC this year. stands were doing deals for the set for £40. if only i had waited. Doh!
