Just thinking after reading the "is there still a market for 400cc bikes" thread that do you see the road bikes slowly coming down in capacity too?

So the 1000's of today would be 800'c in say 10 years time? 400's being re-introduced as the now 600's and the "hypersports" bikes at 1200cc?

Just a thought...

No - remember Ducati is trying to go up CCs in WSB, rather than down.

Though I do note there's been a couple of mid-range 800cc bikes introduced recently.

Echoing G here a bit (sorry) ,but it's only in GP that the cc limit is decreasing, and (unfortunately*) GP bikes are 'one offs' and don't appear in manufacturer's model ranges - although to some extent the GP derived advances in technology do.
Superbike is the series 'directly descended' from production bikes - and (as G says) firms like Ducati are trying to hoik the cc restrictions upward rather than downward (IMHO trying to restart their 'glory days' in SB where they had 250cc over their 4 cylinder competitors).
Personally, i feel we are more likely to see cc and/or power limits forced upon us through government 'knee jerk' legislation, rather than a 'gentlemans agreement' amongst the main manufacturers.

*Personally i'd love to own/ride a road going production version of the last of the 2-stroke GP bikes (NSR500 et al) - only they never bothered to ask me for my opinion. The closest thing would (i guess)be the RD500 or RG500 of yester year, but i reckon modern tackle (Gixer thou, R1 etc)would be more than a match for them. Shame really, i used to think my bro's RD350 YPVS LC was the fastest thing on 2 wheels and the powerband used to scare the crap out of me - i reckon i'd need a testosterone injection before taking a road fettled NSR500 out for a spin!
