Have heard its very nice, the fjords definitely look spectacular.

I wondered about doing a trip from Aylesbury, Bucks up to Newcastle through Norway then down through Sweden back to Harwich/Felixstowe and back home again.

Lots of people I know have been to Norway.

Your suggested route is a LONG way just so's you know. (Plan for at least a month)

You'll not regret going, but do take lots of cash, everything costs a fortune

Budget for about 5 days to ride from Oslo to Calais overland, probably not worth it unless you have massive amounts of freetime and money.

Top tip: The central part of Norway contains the best mountains, fjords and general scenery, once you get up to Trondheim the scenery trails off. I spent about 4 days in one area each day doing a circularish ride round different roads and mountains. I enjoyed those 4 or so days far more than I did trundling up the E6 to Narvik. The most dramatic mountains are to the North of Bergen.

I did the E6 in a car in 2000, and I really enjoyed it, it's pretty spectacular. Narvik is excellent, with a massive, noisy industrial area, and if you have a PADI advanced certificate, you can dive in the harbour where there are several WW2 warships. Unfortunately, I can't swim! Next time I go I'll be prepared.

I'd recommend the Mo-i-rana Youth Hostel as a place to stay en route, it's run by a proper Milf.

I really want to do Scandinavia this summer.

Looking to go al the way to Nordkapp (might as well, while you're at it! Mr. Green )

But is has to be the summer: you can't mess about when you're talking about going to the top of the world....

If you wait long enough, we'll go as a team!

Just thought I'd add to this thread as I'm moving to Sweden in a couple of weeks...

Norway and Sweden both look like fantastic bike countries, but one thing to note is that the coppers there are very tight on speeding.
Also fines in Norway are huge ~£500 - It's also mandatory jail time for 50 kmh above limit, or driving under the influence (a half of fosters would put you over the limit)

*The first time I rented a car in Sweden, on the way back to the airport I was stopped for speeding... They use a helicopter with a radar gun, and a copper up ahead. This is 11 years ago, and the fine was £100

probably not until at least next year due to holidays and money, plus i think i'm gona do a less committed trip first to see how i get on long distance wise on the the bike. I've still only been riding on a full license/big bike for 4 months.

Just been looking at a trip to snowdon over 3 days, 135, 135 and 200 miles a day (or might reverse it and do the long boring day first)

hopefully my girlfriend and brother will pass their tests soon and join me for that one in the summer

I've spent a lot of time with work in Oslo (Capital of Norway).

To be honest I don't like the place much at all, I find it very expensive, ie cans of lager £4, the people I had to work with, were exceedingly rude and annoying, not just one of them all of them.

We were working 14 hour days and they were phoning us up in our hotel rooms at 8am in the morning asking where we were.

Absolute shower, I've spent a lot of time in Goteborg (Sweden) and also Helsinki (Finland) , both of which are great places. I have driven from Oslo to Goteborg and the scenery/views etc were great. There is a bit, near the border where you cross a bridge and the view was fantastic.

One thing to remember Norway is not in the EEC, we got our bags searched for booze and fags coming in to the country.

A few years ag (before kids) the missus and I went across from Newcastle to Bergen on my old GSX750F, camping gear and all. We travelled down through Sweden to Denmark and back to England again - took 3 weeks in total.

My advice - take plenty of packet soup and vodka as Norway is hideously expensive... Watch out for the locals in Audi Quatro's and raindeer...

Scandanavia is great for riding though - where else can you ride past a glacier? Sweden is a bit like the East coast of America - rolling hills, wheat and trees. Denmark is just like England, and if you like a pint certainly the place for your big holiday drink...

Well worth it though! Very Happy

I'm off to Norway next month.
Ferry from Newcastle to Bergen (and back) worked out just over £300 for two people and two bikes.

I was hoping to get to the Nordkapp but haven't got enough time to do it comfortably as I've only got 6 full days over there.
Pretty sure I'll make it to the Arctic Circle though and see the Midnight Sun.....which reminds me, I need to get myself something to cover my eyes so I can get some kip.
