Compared to '30s and '29s ? , there seem to be tons of ZX4Rs low mileage around at low prices compared to the scarcity on the ground of 29s and '30s.

other than Maurice's motocapers saying the ZX has a top end biased engine , +USD forks I'm not sure , anybody care to shed any light? (as said the want of a '30 is fast fading and something else may fill its place!).

Any thoughts?

I prefer the look of the ZXR400 to the NC29, the NC30 is beautiful though...

ZXR is the bike 80% of 400cc racers seen to use at Bemsee (good for spares as well). They are generally a bit more fragile than the Hondas, but also make more power and definitely are more easily tuneable.

Zed Eks Arr - the fastest 3 letters you ever need in 4 stroke baby sportsbike territory. They all handle as if they're on rails and is an absolute giggle to use!

Hmm I suppose the '30s don't have the cam chain problem due to cam gears , is the cam chain/ head gasket difficult to change? (the hardest thing maintenance wise is change me fork bushes and fork seals which was a devil of a job).

or cost for a mechanic to do? and when we say eat what do we mean by eat? , '30s due to the lack of cush drive are reputed to eat chains and sprockets yet Maurice can get 25K out of C&S.

EDIT

as said there are tons of ZXs near me within 30 miles , much fewer '30s and my working patterns (9-5 mon-Fri Thurs-Sun 6pm-11pm) leave very little time to go far to look for bikes,

Also, remember they have been sold for a lot longer, so there should be more about and more available as official imports, so relatively prices are going to be lower as they aren't as rare as well.

I'm thought the 30 has a cam chain. The cam drive system lies inbetween the cylinders, so changing anything there on a 30 would be absolute hell.

If the cam chain goes, your engine will be scrap. The timing will be null and void, leading to valve/piston collisions, which will fuck your pistons, valves and probably cams. With the shrapnel in the cylinder, your bores may get damaged. If your pistons get smashed to shreds, the crank will will get a shrapnel bath.

If the head gasket goes, water will enter the cylinder. Not good. Not only that, but your engine may overheat, or be unevenly cooled. Uneven cooling will probably lead to head warpage, and rapid engine war. A head skim, re-bore and new pistons could be on the cards if it goes untreated.

That's what we mean by eat Mr. Green
