Right, I have a WORKING Sega Mega drive II with 2 working controllers, games are irrelevant here.

Now this must have come out circa 1994. I know it's only 13 years or so old, but there has gotta be only a few still working, most of my mates Mega Drives gave up the ghost long ago.

My wonder is, will these items ever become collectables? I don't wanna sell mine yet, I am still waiting for the elusive time when they are really hot property, hence why mine is stored away in a nice environment.

Yeah, I know they can still be replicated, but they would never be as good as the original, especially in say collectable terms. This is the Sega Mega drive. Laughing

Hi

Given time probably. But probably decades time (ie, when you retire and get nostalgic for a play on one), and probably only then for one boxed with all the manuals.

All the best

I still have a Master System, Mega drive, Mega CD, Sinclair Spectrum 64K, Playstation, XBox and XBox crystal all in the original boxes with shit loads of games. Doubt they will ever be worth anything as there were millions made.

The only time things like that will really appreciate is if they come with complete original packaging and manuals, etc.

Got my MD1 sat on the shelf ready for ebay. Even if i only get a £10 for it and the games it's better than binning it.

Then again, an afternoons entertainment playing sonic is worth far more than £10.... Confused

Noticed today that Robby's meagadrive ebay shop is closed.

they are still way too common in fairly good condition to be rare yet. give it a few years when most of the mega drive generation have cleared out their lofts and binned most of them.

I'd say that it will be, but only in 40 or 50 years, if it's mint, in an undamaged box with manuals etc.

That pong game is from christ knows when, and you can pick them up all over the place.

id say the original 8-bit nintendo will be

& maybe even the master system

but i can see dreamcast being a future classic collectable

was 1st online console & was a good console overall but ps1 had more games & just more hype

neo geo & jaguar could be others aswell

Alex Kidd was a great game, wasted many a childhood day playing that. Got a good emulator on the PC for all my Megadrive, SNES and Amiga urges.

The really early one had Alex Kidd as the inbuitl game.
It also had a snail maze game, you had to press certain buttons for it to work. Wink Thumbs Up

yeah, me dad has a couple, and lot's more old systems in storage from same era.

dreamcxast etc, only sold a few cos they were shiyt, and for that reason won't become collectors for donkeys years IMO.

and not worth a tenner then!

Sega systems r ok, loved mine, but got annoyed when alex kidd got killed, turned into an angel and floated up the screen, resulting in sega smashed against wall when i was about 6. Evil or Very Mad

If you've got an amiga cd32, a 3DO, a philips CDi or an amstrad gx4000 knocking about then they might be worth something. A megadrive is worth about as much as a vintage VCR.
If you want to play megadrive games, then you're best off sticking with the emulators. There might come a day when megadrives are as rare as rocking-horse shit, but probably not in my lifetime

Megadrives will never be worth anything, same as master systems. They were very well made to begin with, and everyone had one. Meaning everyone still has one in the loft, and they all still work.
The rarer and better games (spiderman venom, the shining force games, the chaos engine, true lies etc) are worth between £10 and £20. Any sonic game will sell fast at market value, even spinball.

I closed down my shop because I'm starting a new job where I work normal hours and I won't have time to go to the post office any more. Even so, there wasn't a lot of money in it, average profit was a bit over £1/game.

If you look back the only stuff worth anything is the rare stuff in excellent condition. A boxed mega CD will get you £40, same for a boxed 32x, although you'll probably need to fix it first.

Old consoles. Not a great investment.

Gamestation always have a stack in their window normally for £20 or £30 with a stack of games with them.

The only thing they seem to sell for a fair amount of cash is the good ole Neo-Geo. Looking at a good few hundred quid!
