What do people class as New Bikers these days?
Is it an age thing? Anyone born after the rock era ? or is it considered a 'how long you had the license thing'?
Notice alot of oldies come on this part of the forum to give advice and rightly so ... but at what point do people consider themselves no longer new?
Just... wandering. ____________________ Previous - Gilera DNA50 / XVS125 Dragstar/Honda CBR 600F/GSF 650 Bandit

For me, it's the miles you've covered..
I've seen a lot of bikers who're just fancy sunday riders, who'll maybe do 2,000 miles a year, if that.. and that's only in very good weather. and they'll be telling me all sorts about biking and how to ride etc.
Then you have the flip, where someone like me (and I consider myself still new) has cover probably over 35,000 miles in 3yrs. 25,000 of which have been in the last 12 months. Now I don't consider that a lot, at all. But when you compare it to someone who rides every third Sunday, I think I have a lot more rider know-how than they do.
Taking it further, there's my dad, who's been riding since he was 16 or 17, has only spent 3yrs since then (and he's 51, 52 atm) without a bike.. and even he says he's still learning.
Where do you cut off? Cus everyone is still learning to ride, therefore everyone is still 'new', in a sense. I guess for me it's just when you feel comfortable riding anything in any conditions. I'd be more than happy to take anything from the 50cc scooter, to the 1150GS Adventure out in the worst conditions (even if I can barely touch the floor on the GS).. ____________________ Bikes; '06 Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (for sale) - '95 BMW R1100GS |

I've ridden for 7 years but not as often as I would like due to family and pet obligations. Because of that, every spring when I get on the bike I consider myself a newbie still. ____________________ Past: Yamaha XT225, Honda Magna V4 750, Triumph Thunderbird 900, BMW F650GS. Current: BMW F650GS |

"new" are the people that are just taking their test and up to the 6 months after that. After that period of time they tend to stop posting in here so much and populate the other parts of the forum.
As for me, well i'm just here to help people. ____________________ My Flickr |
