Got my bandit at 4k miles, recently had new tyres, brake pads.toped up oil regularly and tightened chain.
Every now and again it dies at low revs, especially when sitting at lights, every now and again at high speed it sort of misses a beat only for a second.
next problem, the electrics die, when Ive been on a long run and pull over it all just cuts out, everything goes off and I have to lift the battery to get it working again, theres no bare wires everything seems secure and i cant sourse the fault.
Any ideas? anything i need to do at this sort of milage, any general advice would be really helpfull.
Thanks John

Neither of those problems I have ever heard of on a Bandit, especially at only 9 thousand miles. My Bandit has 7000 miles on it and is still fine, bar false neutrals.

Maybe check the carburettor or the throttle cable connection. Also is your Bandit pre 2000 or a K model? Does it only happen when the engine is cold?

However just digging into my memory, sometimes my lights do die for about a second on a long ride and then work again shortly after, but I don't have to stop and jiggle the battery, it does sound like a connection is loose, maybe from vibrations. I have a K4 Bandit, what do you have?

Are the battery terminals properly secure and tight?

also check for any hoses that have been pinched, from the airbox, carbs etc

Sounds like either bad conection at the battery, or the earth on the engine, also check the positive connection at the other end of the battery lead.

Well I've heard of electrical gremlins on Bandits before (although usually with higher milages on than yours), especially after a soaking ride in the rain/sleet etc. Mine sometimes plays up when the water gets into the tray under the seat etc.

I'd go round the electrical connections in turn unplugging and spraying with WD-40 etc. Also check your battery terminals are bolted up tight yea?

Razz Ope that helps

It does sound like an electical connection, but it is possible that it is not the positive feed you need to look at. It could be the engine earth, and as the engine gets hotter you then lose the earth connection. Taking out the battery simply gives the engine time to cool down and remake. Of course i could be miles off but worth checking anyways.

as joe and siggi will remember, i had a problem just like this on my first ride out. it was a gradual thing aswell, it got worse and worse. same symptoms as you describe. it was absolutely infuriating.

for me it was two things, the regulator rectifier had packed up so the battery wouldn't charge properly.
but what was causing it to cut out (incredibly scary when it happened on a motorway at night!), was that the positive connection on the starter relay had for some unknown reason managed to undo itself enough that the connection would break and connect at its own will. this would turn off ALL the electrics.
have a mince around the wiring.
