Mito; great looking , v fast, v powerful, v unreliable. A mate of mine had a mito and he thrashed it alot and then, the gearbox fell apart (nylon gears), crankcase gasket failed, ignition fucked up, knackered electrics, and by 4000 miles the motor was more or less shot. Bought it for €6400 in january sold for little over 2 grand to a dealer in late may.
I have an nsr for a year an a bit. Not quiet as fast as mito or pwerful, definetly not as good lookin. but takes one motherfucker of a thrashin. what do u think. VOTE A single seat conversion makes all the difference on an NSR

Hi

There is no way a Mito uses nylon gears in the gearbox. Probably in the water pump drive and maybe in the balance shaft drive. The Cagiva engine is not that unreliable if treated well. Dont thrash them from cold, and make sure the power valve is correctly adjusted

All the best

i was gonna buy a mito, but got an import nsr instead. i keep hearing to stay away from the import nsr's but how come? do they nacker up after a few thousand miles or is it just cos they dont have the quality of being british made. i have to admit though its bastard to replace parts etc as my indicator went bust and i had to spend £25 each on them. how many miles do you think ive got before having to buy a new one?

the reason imports r shit is cos they are near on impossible to derestrict... (because of europes strange restriction laws). at the end of the day they are all made in europe, but the ones that are destined for the uk, only have the exhaust and intake restrictor, which are easy to remove!
the ones destined for the rest of europe have all sorts of strange and wonderful restrictors, that quite frankly noone knows how to remove Sad
the reliability has nothing to do with it, and you can fit uk spec bodywork/parts on it anyways, so it shouldnt make a difference if you got european indicators or uk ones because the parts are exactly the same.

Yup, the mito really does have nylon gears. I heard it from the last, well former Cagiva importer in Ireland. When i bought my bike i asked about mito's. He said the were fast and powerful but not reliable if you ride them like there supposed to be ridden. "if u change down the gearbox just falls out on the ground" he told me

Well, on the Freccia we have (same engine as the early Mito), we managed 16000km before it went bang, and that was me making a mess of adjusting the power valve. Gearbox was fine, and it had been thrashed hard. It had also been ported (and really needed to 7 speed gearbox)

A nylon gear would not take anything like the power transmitted through the gearbox.

All the best
