I haven't been riding for a few weeks due to no break lever and now that i finally have the part when i went to ride i couldn't get from 1st to 2d gear at all!!! The gear shifter thingy is stuck tight! I've tried greasing it a bit and riding around the car park to loosen it up but that's as far as my mechanical skills go! Please help!

Plus my back break keeps sticking whenever i put it the breaks on! It's drum break an I know nothing about them or how i can clean all the shit that might have got caught in it!

P.S i rid a suzuki marauder 125 if it helps!

Is it not that your clutch plates have seized together?

To sort it, ride along in first gear at (say) 25mph or so, and then (with the clutch out) deliberately lock the rear wheel by pressing hard on the back brake.

This should snap any seized plates apart and restore your ability to shift.

Assuming it's not being caused by something else, of course.

Just to clarify my post there, you mustn't pull the clutch lever in whilst you do that, or else you won't achieve anything. Do it with the lever out.

DONT PUT WD40 On THE BRAKE.
Just in case you got the wrong Idea there, I think thats just a case of take the rear wheel off, and clean the drum and pads, rear drum brakes are common for locking up when you dont use them, it should work back to normal anyway but I'd take the wheel off to be safe.
keep the bike turned off and ask a friend to go up and donw with the gear lever using there hand whilst you jerk the rear wheel backwards and forwards,
this is a less brutakl method that should unstick any stuck parts. riding it round wont do it any good in my oppinion.

Stuck clutch plates wouldn't stop him changing from 1st to 2nd it would stop him being able to engage any gear at standstill with the engine running. He's been riding around so the clutch must be working.

The gearchange problem sounds like you have something wrong with the shift pawl or selector drum. Can you select neutral?

The rear brake could be either the rear brake pedal is seized on the pivot, or the brake cam is seizing in the rear brake backplate, or (most likely) you have worn grooves in the brake shoe wearing-surfaces (mild steel plates on the end of the brake shoes). If it's the grooves you need to remove the shoes and turn them over. Best idea is to drop the rear wheel off strip the whole brake system out and service it.

Thanks guys been great help! I got the back brake to stop sticking just by speeding up and breaking hard to loosten any dirt an shit stuck!! Not a very technical way but it done the job!! I will try out the suggestions for the gears tomorrow dudes! Thanks muchly!

For your own safety and the safety of other I would consider doing a little more than that to solve your staicking brake problem.
