who's got one, you like them? would you advise I get one?
MY agv v flyer is too noisy, and is 2.5 years old, has been on the floor with my head in it twice (lost balance..doh)

How much are tinted visors?
what's the visor system like?
are they quiet?
what's the lining like? I wear a balaclava so doesnt matter if it's hard to clean but more like how much do they compress and settle down?

I'm yet to try one on.

They are uber light. I got mine for £200 last year at the BMF in alloy colours. It was slightly loose around the cheeks at first, so i put thicker cheekpads in which did wonders for the fit! Visor change system is faultless and because i wear earplugs, i've never found them too noisy.

They don't have a chin curtain as standard, so i took the old one off my old HJC and put that on. I know shoei offer a whisper strip to make the helmet quieter because most of the wind noise comes from the underside - i.e. chin, as opposed to the vents.

The lining is plush and soft and comfortable in all seaons. Think of the lenor advert when the baby gets wrapped in the blanket and it's almost like that. Unfortunately, unlike other helmets in that price range, the lining aint removable which came as a surprise to me, so you have to wash it in situ. But it's damn good.

It's very stable at speed.

I got my tinted visor off racevisors for 30 quid or so with the pinlock fitted. Also the clear shoei visors come with pinlock inserts which are ace.

Try one on and see how it feels. It looks sleek, elegant and everything is blended into the design.

it's a very popular lid, well constructed. Worth £220. go for it.

I paid £260 for one last year after getting £40 off the ticket price. No regrets. much better IMHO than a similairly priced AGV (which I also owned)

Personally after having tried various lids out I'd now only by a Arai, Shoei or Schuberth unless the other brands catch up with quality and design.

The XR1000 was a £300+ lid when they came out for a painted lid - so £220 is a canny bargain. They might be bringing out a replacement for the X1000 this year - doesnt mean the X1000 is a lesser lid at all.

I have recently bought an XR-1000 (Kagayama rep) form the Ally Pally show. I paid £220 for it, plus another £40 for a tinted visor and dark pinlock insert. I changed from an Arai Astro J, and the Shoei is just as comfortable and it seems a lot quieter, maybe as it does not have side pods.

The visor change system is better than Arai, (although I had no problem with it) IMO, as the Arai did lose a couple of fixing lugs.

Looks like I may be popping over to J&S
if they bring out a new lid (shoie) surely the X1000 will be reduced further?

My spending for this month is wreckless, tyres, battery, chain, lid and I need new boots.... I keep putting the boots off and buying other things, I think a new lid is almost an essential though...

Suppose I could sell my AGV visors and claw some money back...
Thanks peebles Thumbs Up

Of all the helmets I've owned, this has to be one of the most comfortable but I suppose it depends on what shape head you have whether it'll suit you or not. If only it had a removeable lining it would be nigh on the perfect helmet for me so I would consider upgrading to an X-Spirit for that reason alone.

Was just flicking through my Ride kit thingy, the S spirit is nice, but too pricey for me, I'd rather half an XR1000 new each year than have one pretty x spirit I think...

X-spirits are more race orientated, and as such, would feature less creture comforts than a road lid. Having said that, the XR1000 is a stunner of a lid and i can definately vouch for it. It's good road lid and will last you many years.

Thats what im hoping Wink

Anyway, very good helmets.

XR1000 is their mid range, which is still a shit lot better than the top end HJC's etc.

Nice and quiet, very comfortable. All the padding is removable and washable, and you can replace it for intermediate padding if you find the standard padding is a little too lose, so you can fiddle for fine adjustments Thumbs Up

The pinlock system is second to none, and you should get a free clear insert in the box Wink

Mine is fantastic, quiet, incredably light and the visor system is very quick to use. i can change my visors over in about 20 seconds.

I orderd a black tinted race visor for mine win pin lock and i think it was around £30 pound but cant remember for sure.

I would definatly recommend this lid Thumbs Up

Hello Simple,

My Shoei XR1000 was £300 IIRC last year from Bikers World in Coleshill. It's the blue joust one. They had them on ebay & were cheaper than in the shop but agreed to match the price.

Just bought a genuine tinted shoei visor this week - £33.00.

The lid was a medium but after some use it was too big. I've put in some 39mm cheek pads (originally 35mm) and now just right. Cost was £20 ish.

I prefer the fit of my Arai RX7 but the shoei visor mechanism is so much better. There is some wind noise as expected but I wouldn't say it's too noisy. No more than the Arai anyway.

I don't have the whisper strip but will probably purchase one at some point.

You will pick up a plain colour X Spirit for £280 on ebay or a painted one for £280 to £480 depending on the sellers buy it now. Have a look, you'll be surpised.

https://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=shoei+X+spirit&category0=

IMHO the X spirit is a superior helmet for certain conditions and use - it's colder for winter use simply due to being a tiny shell (I have a small shell in both X1000 and XSpirit). The X1000 is more of a road helmet and I suspose is a 'bit' more comfy but not enough to really matter.

Wind noise is reduced futher with the X spirit due to its smaller shell.

I use the Xspirit is for serious speeds and hooning whilst I wear the X1000 for the bimble type commuting. Saying that though the X spirit is not only for those who race about, whilst it has perhaps a better safey margin there isnt much in it and the aerodynamics are again a slim difference unless you spend most of your time at 120mph +.

So - if you can afford to save another £100 then do so - if not buy the X1000 - there really aint that much in them other than the styling and pose factor of owning a £480 lid.

I'm out of karma but thanks for the replies above.

Subject to the X1000 fitting me I think I'll plump for either the 'fab' red joust or the diabolic so from £220-£270.

I paid £240 for my AGV 2years ago with a dark visor so It's not really 'pricey' I was half expecting to be knocked off again and get paid out for my extravagent helmet... which is what happend to my £60 nitro.

Thanks

A couple of Sharks and a Shoei Raid before the XR1000. Oh yeah and a Nitro. Laughing Nitro. Laughing

Saying that I haven't owned what I would class as a 'quiet' lid.

XR1000's are very comfy though and they look good. Cool

Im on my second XR1000...

https://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/villersCBR/kagayama.jpg

Think it cost somewhere around 250 notes or thereabout.

My first Shoei hit the deck along with me at about 60ish....

https://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/villersCBR/helmet2.jpg

https://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c186/villersCBR/helmet1.jpg

I was very pleased with its performance when it really counted, so much so I bought the second one.

I too had an AGV V-flyer beofre moving over to the shoei. Although flip said the XR is noisy, in comparison to the AGV its whisper quiet. The vents work exceptionally well (not like the AGV where you couldnt tell if they were open or not), the visor is good and has a locking mechanism. The pinlock is an absolute godsend too.

Overall its light, comfy, sturdy, good looking and functional Thumbs Up

absolutely brilliant lids Very Happy

i paid nearly £300 for my XR1000, but it is the haydon rep colours, and that was nearly two years ago.

the pinlock system is great, and you can hold over a boiling kettle for ever and it wont mist up at all Very Happy

wind noise is low, but a tip. make sure the visor is adjusted properly, especially if you use more than one visor.
if it is sitting slightly wrong, it will cause noise.

i've had two major offs, and both times i was wearing top flight shoei lids.
both times they did their jobs excellently, and the second time it surpassed itself Cool

bloody good lids Thumbs Up

Hmm, looks like shoie owners are more satisfied than agv owners...

best price so far is £199 for plain colours
£220 for alloy
£240 for any 2006 colours eg joust and diabolic range
and a jump to £330 for the new colours such as 'fab'
