Hi, i have just bought a battery charger (cars battery charger i think), but i am not sure if it's appropriate for my bike. Well on the cover it says that is Suitable for cars over 1600cc... My bike is Honda NSR 125 and i am not sure what kind of battery i have, the charger is a Sparkrite battery charger with 8amps max output 12V, Model SBC-8

Just want to confirm if it's safe to use it on my bike battery...

Thx, Yarri

Sounds a bit too high a charge and may "fry" the battery.Shop around for an Optimate or similar. It can be hard wired to the bike battery,so all that needs doing is plug in and keep on charge....great if you intend on storing the bike over winter.Hope its of use.Tim Thumbs Up

Have a look at the charger/optimisers in Halfords for bikes, got mine from there.

The bike comes out at the weekend (weather permitting) washed back in Sunday afternoon and bike goes on optimiser until the following weekend, learned the hard way.
Iv'e got kitted up pushed the bike out the garage all set to go and wala flat battery Crying or Very sad

Alarm takes some of the juice out all week so to be on the safe side.

do not use it to charge any bike battery ever!

all bike batteries want for a good life and sterling service is a trickle charge, if you use a charger like that you'll fry it, and on the later sealed batteries you'll blow out the safety valve, the water will evaporate and the battery will die.

find the ampage of the battery (eg 5amp) divide the charge rate into the amp rate, gives you the hours needed to fully charge the battery

EG: 5A battery X 0.5A charger raet = 10Hours charging

get an optimate if not sure, everything OXFORD sell is repackaged taiwanese junk
