im looking for a new one at the moment, and was just wondering what you guys wear, and what they are like, prices? and got any other comments?

im currently wearing a Bieffe entry level piece of 60 quid crap, it does the job, but ive dropped it so many times, i often doubt its effectiveness, but what can you do :P

over to you guys....

also, has anyone seen these https://www.biketrade.co.uk/custom%20lids/Roof%20Helmets_files/boxer_r_small.jpg quite odd but quite cool looking in my opinion

I did have an AGV x-vent evo Joker rep (same as rossi helmet but diff colours). very comfy, quietish and does the most important thing saves heads. Id been down the road 4 times (including the odd strech of hedge) in mine (and i know i shouldve replaced it after the first) and it always protected me, even in the most nasty one where i came off at 90mph and bounced on my head and went flying down the road then the hedge. after comin off the bike all i remember now is seeing the ground coming towards me really fast then shuttin my eyes Sad then opening them in a hedge. The vent system does work and the breath gaurd helpped, for some reason i got 2 of em, a big en and a small en, but theres no chin wind deflecter so a buff is a must at high speeds. As for finish, the top of the visor kept rubbing the seal when i shut it and scratching it, I complained to M and P but they said it was because i didnt clean it, which was bollocks. Although theres no shortage of aftermarket visors. So id rate the helmet 8/10

Hi

Had a Shoei helmet for the past few years and just bought another at the BMF show a week ago (for £150). They seem to fit me well. The HJC lids are probably better shapped for my head, but there sizes seem strange. One size is way too tight, the next size up far too loose.

Go for a make of helmet that suits the shape of your head.

Oh, and the real bit to worry about with damage to a helmet is compressing the lining. Not likely to do this just be dropping it, unless your head is in it at the time. You cannot see if the lining is compressed or not, but the ability to compress (and it will only do it once) is how a helmet works. The bit on the outside just protects the polystyrene inside from damage

All the best

Keith

Got an Arai Quantum F - really comfortable - can be a bit noisy at high speed but with earplugs in its fine - its quiet at low speed though - I'd recommend it! Very Happy

arai are the best helmets you can buy, it feels like they were made specifically for the individual, so comfy and so safe, they exceed all standards, why do u think most superbike riders got them! they are wicked, i used to have a bieffe max biaggi rep, butr now i got a okada arai quantum f, its absolutely brilliant.

At the moment I've got a Black £50 helmet (not sure about the bran 'cos I took the stickers off)

I'm looking at getting a Lazer Revolution for general riding and possibly a Craft/Simpson for fast riding/posing Smile etc.

just got an AGV TBH Rossi rep helmet- looks just like rossi's old one (with the moon on the back) and only £119.99! its gold standard as well so my nut's nice and safe.

I like those craft helmets- but the simpson bandit is better if you like that style. It probably costs more though.

I've got a yellow Roof Diversion which goes nicely with my bike. It is comfy and quiet and seemed to win some 2001 MCN award for best helmet.

No matter how expensive or *good a helmet is, if it doesn't fit you properly, and lets face it we all have different shaped heads, it is not going to give you the best protection. Go for one that fits really snugly. As you may realise I am now mostly requiring a new helmet....(bike straighteners, and a new arm/back) and tried on just about every make at SIlverstone, and even a £300 Arai didn't feel quite right - despite being "the best on the market" I was advised not to buy it.

I have got an AGV Patriot V10 in Union Jack colours with a bulldog on the side.

Had a few lids before and AGV are the only ones that fit me snuggly. It's what you're comfortable with innit???

I have turned up on the back of my uncles blackbird to a meet before and he had an Arai Quantum F at the time and I had my old AGV X Vent on, and some guy said I needed a better quality helmet cos if I came off i'd be buggered going the speeds on the blackbird.

I basically told him to fuck off cos if an AGV feels fine for me then an AGV it will be (hey that rhymes), and anyway he could shut up, for a start my AGV's have always been type A and therefore race approved and you can use them on the track, and secondly he had a GSXR750 streetfighter and had one of those Simpson bandit helmet jobby's that looked about 6 years old, so would probably have had as much protection in a crash as if he were wearing a party hat.

Hi

The Simpson helmets may look good, but are not much use in an accident (the chin piece is not strong enough to pass BSI tests). As Anne says, get a helmet that fits properly, the make is fairly irrelevant after that. By the time the difference between the best Type A approved helmet makes a difference over a Type B, then your neck is likely to have already broken

All the best

Keith

I know the OGk's are supposed to be noisy but Ive heard nothing about the craft lids at all.
