I have an import nsr 125 fk (unfared version) that I just got a couple of months back, it still only has about 7000 on the clock, though it is a 1989 model.
I have my test in a couple of weeks that I assume that I will pass.
The question is do I derestrict it or not?
At the moment it is only restricted by having a UK exhaust on it and it still has great acceleration, but only a top speed of around 65.
I was told by a fellow biker that derestricting it would increase the top speed but at the expense of the accelleration.

What do you lot think?

Hi

The NSR125F was not imported officially (I think). Full power it should be slightly quicker on acceleration and slightly slower on top speed than an NSR125R (less weight but worse aerodynamics). I would still expect a top speed of at least 70, and if it is only restricted by a UK exhaust then at least 80. My guess is that when it was restricted they have been a bit enthusiastic.

How long are you going to keep it? If for any length of time then I would derestrict it, but maybe consider getting a spare exhaust to do. This way you can return it to restricted when you sell it (could be a bit dodgy selling it to a learner who has no idea that they technically are not licensed for it).

All the best

Keith
