To save extra hassle from printing my disseration off in uni on Friday, I've decided to buy a cheap(ish) printer tomorow.

Haven't got any time to be messing about, basically got a choice of normal high street type shops, PC World, Dixons etc.

I'm looking to spend £80 or less including the necessary black and colour ink. If it's got any photo ability that would be a bonus.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

I would scout around for a laserjet 4 or 5, should be pretty reasonable these days with newer models coming out. Got one for my daughter for uni and she prints loads off.

Tried the inket route and got fed up of buying/refilling cartridges.

EDIT: Sorry just noticed that you need one tomorrow.

You might be able to get an Epson r300 for 80 quid. It prints on to dvd/cds too. It takes 5 ink cartridges and you can get them for about a quid each or less. Thumbs Up

Yeah sorry, was in reference to the laser printer post (assumed that was b&w).

Looking at pcworlds site, I could stretch to £90 for a R245 or £70 for an R220.

Can't find it for sale anymore, but my canon i350 managed to whack out my dissertation. Guess it was £30ish.

Two copies of my 70 page, 16,000 in high quality with colour photos/maps/graphs.

Managed 150 pages in high quality on one black and one colour generic ink cartidge at £1.50 and £3.00 each and still had plenty left at the end for those rasterbator posters.

Just saything that you don't need to spend huge amounts of money.

got one of those myself, fookin excellent printer, every inkjet I've ever had the ink cartridges have dried up and become unuseable but not this one.

ink comes in individual cartridges and even the ones supplied with the printer seem to last forever, I bought a spare set with the printer expecting to have to change after printing 4-5 photo's but 30-40 photo's on they still show as 25% full., I bought the small addon scren off ebay which allows you to print straight of your cameras memory card.
overall I would give this printer 10/10 every time.

Personally I rate Canon inkjets, I always found Epsom slow and noisy in comparison.
If it's for document printing rather than photos I wouldn't bother with a pricy one, the basic bottom of the range should be more than adequate!

The basic Canon unit is called Pixma IP1600 and costs £32 from Amazon, perhaps a pound or two more in store.

Theres quite a few in manchester that will print and bind your dissertation from a cd for £24.99.

There should be one near to your university Thumbs Up

I think there is one or two around here... though as I'm typically ill-organised and they're likely to be very busy at the moment, plus they take a 24 hour turn-around. Think I'm gonna need every hour on this I can get.

I'm gonna go for the R245, £80 in pc world if you quote a web ref. Sort of makes sense as I do some photo printing on my parents printer whenever I get chance.

Cheers everyone for the suggestions.

Isn't the r300 a newer model? You can pick them up for 80 quid I'm sure. PC World are pretty dear, I would try elsewhere first. Thumbs Up

I have used special software for poster printing. It makes good posters.

P.S. I understand that it is not new thread, but I think this link will be helpful for forum community.

i spent 50 quid on my samsung laser ML 1610, Its not buble jet which means the ink doesnt finish after 5 prints.

Plus it prints quickly, the toner is included in the toner and you cant print about 1000 pages. Avoid inject printers like the plague, they are not worth it.

If i you are after a mono ( black and white ) i would recommend my one.

check here https://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/103045/rb/25547727328 £50.60

or a little better model
https://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/112911/rb/25547727328 £73

and with free shipping you really cannot go wrong

Thumbs Up
