Hi,

To all the skillful - how do you get a wheelie to happen?

Is it just being brave as a fool or is there a skill?

ahem
Definatley some bravery involved in getting into the balance point... once you've done it a bit it shouldn't be so scary.

What bike are you trying to do wheelies on?

More a matter of balancing on an NSR than on a larger bike (still dosn't make it any easier for me)

Different techniqes for different bikes... I had a go on a mates race tuned PE175 (motocross bike)... all you neaded to do was turn the throttle slightly for the front to come up while something like the NSR requires a lot more skill.

First if your bike restricted... don't bother, do some stoppies :) or get it derestricted.
I never managed anything that impressive on my NSR 'cos it was still partially restricted, but this is the sorta thing you want to be trying:

Go along at fairly slow speed: <10mph.
Pull the clutch in, rev to about 7-8000rpm and dump the clutch (let go... not progressivly at all just let go off it)... THis'll probably just result in a jerk forward.
Once you've got used to it incresase the rpm you're dumping the clutch at by 1000rpm, until you're upto about 10500-11500... the front wheel should be coming up by this point.

It sometimes helps if you put your feet on the back pegs and generally try and get your weight to the back.

Heheheh.. yeah try popping it at 10500. hehehhe

I have managed a reasonable wheelie by revving it up to about 9000 and letting go of the clutch fast.. but not dumping it..!!

fairing bits are hard to come by .. especially for my rk..!!

Well i have spent the day fixing my m8's CG125, and afterwards i took it out for a test ride. It amazes me how easy it is to wheelie, which i know doesnt sound very likely, but standing up, leaning against the top box, all i do is give the bars a tweak and open the throttle from about 3-5mph, and it came up nicely, it obviously dont go far on the back wheel, but its easy it get it up to the balence point, its just keeping it there is the problem. I also got a little wheelie going over a large bump in second, at about 15mph. Its much easier than my speedfight to wheelie anyway!
