My chain is VERY loose now. Came off again today.

What is the cheapest/easiest thing to get it sorted??

Like taking some links out or getting a new chain. I'd rather not spend too much cash on it as I hope to be rid of it soon

Cheers,
Dodd

Hi

Your chain did not look in that bad a condition (from memory), but it is very long (wont help it last a long time) and it could do with adjusting.

Take a link out of it, and see how it goes.

My guess is that the chain for your bike will not be expensive (looks like a 420 chain, fairly light grade so I would guess £30 max plus the sprockets)

All the best

Keith

Hi

If the sprockets are not too worn then you can get away with just a new chain. Look at the teeth. They should be even, in that both the leading and trailing bit of the teeth should be the same shape. As the sprocket wears it will look more like a saw blade, with hooked teeth.

It would not surprised me if you could just get away with putting a new chain on.

As an idea on price, from the old M&P catalogue a 130 link 428 chain (for a TZR125) is £12.80 for a standard one up to £16.56 for a hd chain

All the best

Hi

Hold bike with rear wheel in the air (makes it easier, but not essential). Slaken off the chain adjusters so the rear wheel moves forward in its mounts. If you do this the same number of turns on each side then it should stay in line with the front wheel. If not you will need 2 long straingt pices of wood (or something like) to get the rear wheel in line again.

Split the chain. Yours uses a split link chain, so just find the split link and pop the clip off. One the clip is off, the side plate on that link can be removed, and then you can just push the end of the chain sideways to split it. Hook your new chain onto the end of the old one, the gently pull the other end of the old one to draw the new chain into place. Once this is done, put the new split link into place, put the new side plate on the other side and clip the new spring clip in place. The spring clip should have its closed end leading (ie, the closed end should always point in the direction the chain is going). Then adjust the chain to the correct tension

All the best

Keith

have you got it in a rideable condition then?

my flat mate's stacked his r6 yesterday Sad Mad
he actually *broke* the front wheel... not just bent, there's a 20cm x 5cm chunk out the side of it and one of the spokes is broken.... he didn't really stack it as seriously as you either Exclamation

Yea, I rode it yesterday, and miraculously it does stuff, like go in a straight line and round corners when I tell it to.

I'm a bit edgy, braking, and loosing grip are making me a bit uptight, but I'll get used to it again. Just need a bit more sun now.......

Sounds like you were lucky... You're stack was definatley a lot worse than when I last stacked my NSR (on a big mini roundabout at fairly slow speed with the front wheel just knocking a car)... I got bent front forks, an even more broken exhaust and a bent right clipon Sad...
Had to ride it a couple of miles home as well, which was a bit dodgy as it went left a lot better than it went right or straight on Confused

Dont worry annabella. After falling off my DT50 all corners were taken at 10mph even on my NSR. Just have to make my fun by beating people off the lights, as long as theirs not a corner up ahead.....
Ime sure youll get your confidence back.

Awwwwwww why you taking the piss out of Doddmasters bike for!!

Maybe he wants it like that. I don't care what anyone says but we all know deep down he is taking the sensible route and is moving up bikes gradually, which in time will make him a much better rider than most of us. All us lot just go for the most powerful bike we can afford asap!!

No probs mate, thought someone had better stick up for ya a bit!!

It's true though, you are progressing up the ladder slower, most of us don't have the self control to do that, we just think bollocks.....I'll have one of them new blades after my NSR......
