This is the very first time I rode my turbo hayabusa. I built the whole turbo setup myself, in the vid it's making 230HP @ 6psi of boost (later made 300). This is on "flyer" gearing which is higher-geared than stock - god know what would have happened on stock gearing Very Happy There's two white dots on the runway in the foreground, keep an eye on the bike as I pass the first one it made the crowd gasp and had the paramedics running for the ambulance Very Happy Very Happy

There are some things that have just gotta be done mate. Very Happy Very Happy

It's not a road bike BTW, purely for the runway, though when I sold the turbo-kit I rode the bike I fitted it to on the road for about 50 miles for dynoing and it was perfectly behaved. The guy who owned the bike picked it up from my house in Kent and rode it straight home to Yorkshire in sub-zero temperatures.

Target for this year is 450HP at the wheel Laughing Laughing Laughing

Awesome , do you have any pics of it.
I looked into the Supercharger but was scared off by reports on 200mph.com

Thumbs Up

I'll dig some photos out later Johnny.

There was a big hoo-harr about the supercharger kit. It was early in development at the time. I don't know how much it has changed but I know that Mark Fisher of Greenhill Racing has done a lot of work on Rotrex charger setups and overcome many of the issues that plagued early bikes. If you are still considering it then he's the man I'd reccomend you approach. I saw one of his bikes on the dyno making a healthy 230HP, with a torque-curve to die for Smile

Thanks Geri,
My bike is up for sale at the mo but only until the end of March, if it hasn't gone i shall keep it and maybe give ya man a call. I heard about issues regarding fuel octane, it would run very well over 8k revs on pump gas, dunno what percentage was fact or fiction.

Thanks

Johnny

Hmm I think the bike in question was fitted with the larger model charger, rated for 300hp. It's true, that couldn't be run over 7000ish rpm without race fuel. I still think that with some development, and a reasonable intercooler rather than the pants thing that came with the kit, it could be made to run to the redline. I don't think the standard road kits suffer that problem nowadays.

The big issue with these supercharger kits is development, specifically (in my opinion) findng the optimum gearing for the charger and sorting-out the fuelling and intercooling. They will never stack-up to turbo size-for-size for outright power but they do make a fantastic road-tool. I very nearly bought the kits at the heart of the debate but cred-off at the last minute purely becaus eI learned from the seller than my mate has expressed an interest. He bought it, and it cost him lots of money in damages and work to get it working well. If I had the chance again I would certainly buy one just to see what I could make it do. I definately wouldn't buy anything that couldn't be used to it's potential without race fuel, it's around £20 a gallon

I am sort of involved in the building of a pre war iron head 1000cc Square Four that is going for its class record of 133mph.
How long is that runway and how do you get to run on it?

The runway is 2 miles long and you can run on it on the 12th and 13th of May this year by going here If you have any problems or need to know anything, just ask. The entries haven't been released yet so there's plenty of time.

No problem there's another in September - or next year. We've been holding events there for 4 years now.

Good event Thumbs Up I was there purely out of curisosity over what my bike would actually do, in real speed, rather than the imaginary speedo reading.

I have no idea but I'm sure the paramedics in attendance will know Smile

I've seen two high-speed deflations, a low-speed off and several blown engines so far and we've always all made it home alive.

A guy used to ride a Vincent-engined bike called Brutus II that always looked like it was going to crash - but never did Very Happy

171mph is a good speed for a 750 anything, do you recall what the speedo reading said? P.S. - you have GOT to bring it to the Pod this year. There's nothing like sitting on the startline there for the first time with your feet sticking to the surface to get your heart racing @D

Speedo was reading 186mph (digital and doesn't read any higher). It was also reading that speed for some of my slower runs (around 168-170mph).

I did Santa Pod on my old ZX6R a couple of year ago. Pretty nervy stuff, sat there on the line with a shed load of people watching while the bloke takes his time pressing the button! Laughing
