Ok my pc has been fucked for the last 2 days, but I'm back now!!

Firstly I wanna say thanks to Viper!! She sent me her NSR carbon fibre yoke cover and it looks the bollocks Laughing Thank you so much!! I will return the favour at Rock 'n' Blues somehow!! (that is if I go, which I will come to in a minute)

Moving on to my bike ----->>>>>>>

Hmmm.... ok it's siezed Sad Some of you may or may not know that I was coming home the other day and the engine died on me. Since then I have took it to a guy who I know and we had a look (well he had a look) and the plug is covered in alloy (from the piston) but the piston doesn't seem to have a hole in it. He did praise me though, cos I must have banged the clutch in that fast I didn't feel it sieze at all, and it didn't skid!!

I am gonna get it stripped down to see exactly what's wrong, I am just hoping the big end bearings are okay, otherwise I gotta have the engine out, crank pressed, etc etc which costs major £££££££ Sad

The guy said it might be a piston ring that's cracked and then got wedged between the piston and the barrel, and may have damaged the barrel. If it has I am therefore gonna need a re-bore, piston, rings, gaskets, small end bearings, and I think thats it. I think I am looking at the bad side of £150 though Sad Also, I dunno if my bike will be back on the road in time for Rock 'n' Blues, cos I need to save up £150 first, but I will try my best, I get £100 paid into my bank on Friday though from work, of which £50 goes straight to my dad for insurance, so I'll have £50 left. I'll see how much more money I can get together, but I gotta remember I am gonna need a new plug, also about 2 litres of fully synthetic for running in my new parts, and petrol of course.

Which brings me onto my last thing.......

Supposing my bike is back on the road in time for Rock 'n' Blues, how many miles do I have to run it in, and at what revs??? Also I am not sure if the barrel can be re-bored, someone said something about a coating it's got on???

If my bike ain't on the road, I might still be able to make it to Rock 'n' Blues (somehow Confused ) but, it will obviously without my bike Sad so I just hope it's ready..... Ok enough of me going on, I gotta go to college!!

Cya guys, and thanks a lot!! (esp. Viper!! Laughing )

Scoobs you have to come! You dont live far away do you? Use the Rock and Blues forum. We can arrange to pick you up from the local train station or something.

Good luck with the bike.

IF he lives within a reasonable distance someone could probably pick him up from his house once they've dumped their luggage etc.

Hi

Fairly certain as standard the NSR cannot be rebored, and the stock pistons come in 5 sizes which should be matched to the bore. The difference in diameter between the largest and the smallest is 0.025mm, whereas on a bike with a steel bore the difference between one size of piston and the next one up after a rebore is normally about 0.25mm (ie, 10 times bigger).

However. you can get them replated. For example P J Engineering(https://www.prox.co.uk) will do both replating and inserting a steel liner. They say they have not problems at all with the steel liner, but I did many years ago (nothing to do with PJ Engineering though). The barrels with a liner can be rebored

However, the cost isnt cheap. They want £86.50 +vat for the cylinder.

I have had a ring crack, and also had a circlip jump out (turned out the dealer supplied the wrong circlip on my old AF1).

All the best

Keith

Keith so if my barrel is fucked what would you advise me to do??? I will need piston/rings/gaskets/circlips as it is, but I am just not sure what to do if my barrel is fucked. Crying or Very sad Confused

Hi

I would get the barrel replated. Sure it then cannot be rebored, which means any future blow ups cost the same rather than being cheaper, but I am not reliant on one bike.

If the bike has just seized lightly then you can hopefully get away with cleaning the existing barrel up (removing all the remains of the old piston)

All the best

Well I don't think the piston has holed, but there's alloy from the piston on the plug, so maybe my big end bearings have gone. However, someone said I might be able to get away with just a new piston/rings/small end bearings, if a piston ring has wedged itself between the piston and barrel.

Thanks for all your help anyway Keith,

Cheers

Hi

Had a ring snap on the old Futura I had. This wore through the chrome and then wore rapidly through the allow. No signs of alloy on the plug. If the ring has come out then it will probably have trashed the barrel (gouges and some cracks can be welded up before the barrel is replated). However, if it has just nipped up you might be lucky. The piston may well have left some "skid" marks behind, but it should be possible to clean these up.

The only time I have ever had alloy residue on the spark plug was when I burnt a hole in a piston (about 5p sized)

All the best
