...or rather, lack of.

Maybe it's the London mentality, but I've noticed hardly anyone actually says hello to each other nowadays. When I lived in Milton Keynes everybody always gave the nod to each other, even to the slightly-clued-up scooter kids and learners thrashing their 125s around. If you gave a nod, you nearly always got one back, and you'd often get an impromptu chat at the lights if you pulled up next to another biker.

London? Forget it. I've never been acknowledged by any biker when I'm out on the TZR, and only a few times on the 6. Courier riders pretend you don't exist, scooter drivers just stare at you and everybody just seems generally less happy about being on the roads.

Are they putting something in the water?

bah.

Everyone says that no-one nods around London.

I went out on Sunday when it was dry and sunny, and all the fair weather bikers were out. I must have passed about 50 of them and got 3 nods back. They must have been concentrating really hard or something Laughing

To be fair, anyone that rides in London regularly would probably end up looking more akin to the Churchill dog if they nodded at every biker they saw.

Also, it is one of the biggest capitals cities in the world I believe: so I wouldn't be expecting that much from people - as is the same for most big cities.

For the 1st time ever, I find myself in agreement with 'G' Confused I need to sit down now.
I tend to nod to Harley riders about 50 yards in advance, it gives you time to give them the Middle Finger Middle Finger when they don't nod back.

Most bikers tend to nod around here (Worcester) but scoots defintely dont. Mainly scoot riders here are chavs or, stangly, old men. Generally sports riders seem to nod the most.

meh, it's halfy half round here, but i also noticed its dependant on the bike you are riding, on he ZXR + Gixxer i get nods from other sports bikes, when on the Bandit i was usualy blanked, or ignored by sports bike riders.

But hey thats life, you shouldn't really care if you get acknoligment (sp?) from other riders, you are out there to ride for your self not others.

I agree with G, I think my head would fall off if I nodded to every bike I went past on the way to work.

Also don't expect to get a nod from a courier, most of them are trying to get to there next pickup/drop off point asap. The last thing on there minds is to nod at passing bikes.

On a Sunday you'll get a lot of nods, as all the Sunday riders are out.

Lol just get used to it London is a horrible and unfriendly place.

Bandit's are sports tourers, not (super)sports bikes, they are generally not in the same 'category'.

Couriers, are cunts and for them, time is money. I get the odd thumbs up if lucky when give them leway.(sp?)

I nod as much as the next guy, but when the next guy don't nod, that says a lot. Laughing (I do really) Wink

Always get the nod from other sportsbikes once on finchley road and heading out. Heading in, it's a different matter. If your bike sounds the bollox or tries to make it appear like WW3 is fast approaching, yeh, u'll get a few nods. Banging off the limiter in 1st/2nd in central london is an easy way to get noticed by other bikers, although most will be confused. (i.e. vespa chiefs and suited gentlemen and the like). Did have a game of "owned" with a fireblade riding courier - pulled a stonking wheelie down baker street and stoppying at the lights and portman square/selfridges. That was tre cool

Got to say riders around Derby area tip the nod more times than not.

The times Iv'e been to London is mostly on the motorways (boring) so I can't comment as Iv'e not rode in a lot of urban areas there.

From time to time going in or out you'll get a nod back.. You can tell those who're visiting, or riding 'cus they like it, they'll nod.. People that use a bike for work purposes will never nod in/around London.

As for Harley/standard cruiser riders, there was a small group parked up outside a pub/restaurant down the A4 the other afternoon, two actually waved as I went past - All big, long bearded type.

I usually get nod returns in MK area. This morning I passed 2 bikes coming the other way and got 1 half-nod reply. If someone nods at you and you see them, its just plain rude to not return the nod, its not like there's a lot of bikes out in this area during the week.

One of the main reasons we London riders don't nod is that we're concentrating on staying alive! Shocked Often two bikes, going in opposite directions, filtering in the middle of the road - one will pull over, eight times out of ten you'll get a nod. If someone nods me then I always nod back, although in recent years the number that do has diminished.

I nod to everyone on my 125. And it's falling apart. I always get a nod 'cept for some people on scooters. This guy on a DNA did nod back to me though. So I'm guessing the other scooter riders who don't nod back are just 16 and waiting for a car or don't get it.

I nod at any 2 wheeler I see. With an engine. Smile

I nod at other bikers aswell and I'm only on a tzr 125 that is falling apart aswell (12 years old) most people nod back and sometimes I get a nod from peds aswell. I never really new about the nodding thing untill I actually started riding (on my little ts 50) and just carried on doing it.
Can you imagine the sort of problems we would have if every car driver felt it necessary to wave at each other. Laughing
