a question for the irish bikers

is it true that you can't exceed 45mph for a year or 2 after you pass your test? i assume this means no motorway as well, do you have to display P plates as well or something.
also, why bother gettings RSs or NSRs when you cant exceed scooter speeds?

There is no speed restriction in ireland. Theres a bhp restriction alright. 14bhp i think for an A1 license which you can get at 16 and 33bhp for a A license (18). Either way, RS125's and NSR125's are no longer sold due to an insurance group hike of 5 groups over 2 years. Originally both bikes were group 2, then they went to group 4, now they're group 7. And since most of the bikes in ireland are driven in the dublin area (also the most expensive insurance region, twice as expensive as the midlands), the insurance cost is enormous and less and less are riding them.

no theres no speed restriction but there is a 12hp restriction and 33hp for 2 yrs after your test. It's a shame about the fruckin insurance though, it ruins everything. hhmmm... i feel an epidemic of dead insurance men is well due by now!!! by the way whats the average insurance premium on an nsr for a 17-18 year old?
