Does your transmission shaft whine? Mine does when taking off in first gear, from the rear, I think. Can't hear anything else after 2nd gear anyway, with all the wind rush. I checked the oil at the rear, and it was at the correct level. Clean too, from what I picked up with my finger. Never checked for shavings at the bottom of the housing though.. (!). Maybe it is a case of 'they all do that, sir', but who knows. Not that I'm inclined to change the rear end, just grimly curious is all.

I admit, I do like the sound of mine, apart from the dicky downpipe-exhaust leak. But it's the slightly more painful sound from the rear which has me wondering..

The oil will look clean but that does mean the quality of the oil is good.
It wouldnt do any harm to change it.

Paddy.

Hmm. Fair enough. Probably too late now anyway. I will get my friend to act as mainstand on the weekend. Report back then. Thanks.

I may well be mistaking the engine taking the load (when I let out the clutch) for a certain whine , doesn't bother me though , thinking wayy back , my first NTV a 600 did the same ,

pretty much nowt to worry about then , 32000 miles ago it did it , 13000 miles ago when I changed the rear oil , it did it , after it did it, its just such that I don't notice it anymore, I wonder if Sickpup (a courier who rides NTVs for a living) knows about it.
