My gear lever is a bit rough and has worn a small hole in my goretex alpinestars boots (pictures below) where it comes into contact with the lever.

I've managed to find myself a thin piece of leather which I'm going to fabric glue over the top of the hole later tonight. I've also ordered a new lever. Has anyone had anything like this before, and what did you do?

Hey,

Ive never had problems with holes been worn in my bike boots. However my dads always putting holes in his work boots, and usually sends them off to the shoe menders. (They usually cut keys too) They put a new piece of leather on and stitch it on properly.

Hope that helps,
Shaun.

Glue alone won't hold it for more than a week or two.

Also if it has worn through to the Goretex lining, then make sure it is thoroughly dry before fixing it.

Goretex can leak, but only if worn down.

But other than that get it down to a shoe repair shop as said makes a better repair than a DIY job.

Yeah I'm starting to think a proper repair would be better. The goretex hasn't worn away, it's just down to it. Probably take it to a cobblers tomorrow.

Thanks Thumbs Up

No probs, i work in an outdoor shop which sells a lot of Goretex boots and jackets, it may also be worthwhile checking to see if you can get it repaired under guarentee.

All Goretex boots, jackets come with a lifetime guarentee.

That may be another alternative for you.

Thanks, I'll look into that Thumbs Up

Do you have a rough idea how long I'd be without my boots if I went the guarantee route? I Don't know if I could afford to be without them for very long as they're my only pair of bike boots.

Guarentee route will normally be between 3 days to a week roughly, All depends on delivery.

Normally through my store things are pretty quick when it comes to guarentee repairs.
