Let off throttle, wait second, back on = Faster....

Does anyone else get this or is it just my bike. When its chugging along relatively slowly I let off throttle for a second (not changing gears) and then back on and it shoots off..

Question

Are you sure it's just not because if you let the throttle drop you'll get more of an increase in pull when you twist it back on, as opposed to keeping the revs higher (throttle already twisted a bit) and the difference between that throttle position and fully isn't as much?

I doubt it's faster, just feels like it's pulling more.

Sounds like you might be running rich. As you ease off the throttle you get more air coming in, then you're applying more fuel to that air.

That doesn't make sense to me.

What kind of bike is it? It might have that type of carb with a rubber diaphragm which acts like a set of bellows if you pump the throttle. But I've never seen one on a bike... I assume they did used to put them on bikes...

Yeah, thats the shiznit.

Maybe thats exactly what it is.

I doubt its running rich if its a two stroke because the richer they run, the faster they go (until they get coked up!).

All the extra fuel helps piston cooling.

well maybe ive been proven wrong twice....

im also into lammies and vespas...and as far as i know when throttle is opened more air comes in and this draws in the fuel. when throttle is closed the pilot jet does the work...

and also thought a scoot runs better when lean but will eventually sieze the piston .....

Thats right! It's all in the mind.

As for the accelerator pump, I think that is there to give an extra squirt of fuel when the throttle opens up and the mixture turns very lean. More to prevent stalling as opposed to a power boost.

Regards
