There is a common saying , do X now or you will regret it , hence my touring planning, recently and regular touring orientated questioning on this forum which I doubt many of you will have seen.

April = Monaco/Gap/Alps 2500ish miles total (more than Maurice cus I live further north
than him).

June/July = possibly Trev's Cadiz tour (very very far) , unknown status, poss not got the
legs for it 1800 miles in 1800 miles out,

Sept = Nath type tour to the Eastern Bloc (useful as cash maybe running low by now)
defo cram one in before the end of the season.

However during my planning a MINT NC30 has turned up , no really mint from a guy with a
real good rep ,which has made me 70-30 infavour of touring,



But this is a double regret situation! ,



I've seen so many crappy NC30s, finally a good one has turned up its a bloody old and getting
pretty rare bike. and I've looked for a decent one for close to 9 months then gave up. I picture
myself in 2052 and children are reading about motorbikes which are no longer produced
and say I used to have one of those NC30s and then spout a load of BS about it to kiddies who
cannot doubt me since '30s no longer exist anymore. And be able to say things like oh it had
no cush drive you know it used to break me legs each time I changed gear.


Yet I've never been touring and now is the start of the season to at least experience it once in
my life time and one day being able to sit infront of children in the future, next to a mueseum piece
motorbike , which in the far future will cease to be produced, and say when I was in mah 20's I went
all round Europe on one of these babies , and I used petrol , and some spotty cynical kid says to
me yeah right , and another kid comes up to me and says damn you old fart ! you've told us this
story for the 1000th time already!. A bit like my dad who loves to tell his stories of his youth.


Would it be completely and utterly unacceptable to not tour in April . buy this NC30 and
go touring on THAT bike instead? , and only do 1 or 2 tours in 2007, especially when the
weather is better (Maurice's posts about 2004 meantioned rain in June/July).

I mean if it was a ZX6R I'd not bother since ZX6Rs are always being manufactured and new models
will be around for a long time yet, but a minter '30....... far and few between...

While delaying the tour further means I can plan my tour properly instead of head south till
I see water type plan in my mind , and possibly get some more riders to come with me
one guy has made noises about coming with me, and to get everything like E111s insurance
etc planned.

Or its just an overated bike ? , since on paper my NTV in terms of torque and power is well
matched for '30s , but much uglier.

I don't have any experience in this type of situation, but I'd say you can go touring later, or only 2 not 3 times, but a bike like you describe is a grab it with both hands or lose it for good opportunity, so I'd get it HTH in some way Thumbs Up

If you really have your heart set on the bike, buy it, save up again and do the tour later in the year.

Even better tale to tell in the pub if you do the tour on an NC30. Thumbs Up

That would be one good way to get to know that particular bike very well in a short time...

I would rather go touring on a cheap bike or something new and shiney with warrenty, Seems a bit of a shame to do it on a NC30 in good condition... Pleanty of other bikes you could run into the ground...

Either way get the bike, just as to if you should tour on it... meh thats up to you Razz

Bikes a bike, i dare say you'd regret missing the trip of your life more than a bike, and a shiney bike is just a shiney bike, you could buy your dream nc30 and some twat could hit you and smash it to bits at any time, or it could blow over, unless you didn't ride it which is utter madness.. spouting bollocks of the time you got drunk in Tajikistan and ran naked with a yak sewn to your legs at 4am, or rode though the majestic alps and the diarrhoea streaming down your leg didn't in any way spoil the breathtaking views..

You know it makes sense Wink

Personally i'd use something like the ntv to go touring and if it still runs when you get it home flog it on, chances are you'll get allot of it back.. i've been offered running cx's for well under £200 and lower (as low as free) keep looking out and you'll find something, even get two shitbags and build a goodun out of them, then you have a donor bike for spares also..

ah glad you found a NC30, do yourself a favour though, have the common courtesy to answer PM's and i must say the lack of please and thank you doesnt really do you justice. take that as advice or get the hump i really dont care, but its free all the same.
Go for it touring on a NC30 would be great, we have down spain and france in the past and NC30's were fine. all i would say is check the rad's and ensure its leak free. put a manual override switch for the fan inplace.
We are off to spain in may, and heading out to the ring in june. cant wait and would have no problem using the NC30. saying that i used an old early 916 for a 2500 mile tour of spain and france, and broke down with a melted rectifier so what do i know.

Um yeah sorry about that.

Unfortunately Paul this is YOUR NC30 I'm talking about you realise? , (I know you do not describe it as mint but compared to all the wrecks I've looked at mint would be an appropriate word, esp since you are willing to put up super clear close up pictures which most people don't do to hide stuff and I have a spare nose cone stored around somewhere which is RWB), and the comments/rep on 400GB about it, I lurk there now and again.

which clouds the waters a lot....

What I'm saying is I can buy your '30 but not go tour in April , or I can go tour and not buy your '30 , a bit of an XOR situation.

Well you will be pleased to know i have the calipers and they will be fitted this weekend. all i want to do now, is grease and adjust the headstock bearings (as i feel they are a tad loose even although they passed the MOT) and look at one of the lower underside fairing lugs as it looks like its not long for this world without some intervention.

Thanks for your comments, i am glad you like the way i presented the bike. i feel there is nothing worse than people describing things as "yeah mate its mint" and "its perfect just needs a clean" only to drive miles and its junk.
I would rather show all the warts so the buyer knows exactly what they are looking at and there is no hard feelings if they feels its not as described and a wasted day.
I accept it isnt perfect, but i think you will agree it's not a turd and the fact i have owned it pretty well from being in the uk for 9 years is a rarity.
Well this weekend i am going to list it on ebay being a free listing weekend and take a chance with it. i still feel its a month to early to get anyone keen to bite for a bike. but i encourage you to come and have a look to see it in the flesh and hear the motor and how good its sounds. but if you want to make a bid like everyone else and take a chance then cool. at least you have seen proper pics of the bike.
I will also try and get some more with the fairings removed again to show the rads and the engine area.

What about a small loan or similar?

Get a long term one with no early repayment penalty and it shouldn't be too bad.
