I have to tell you, I am incredibly excited to get the bike in my hands. Its weird, i have never been this jittery about buying anything in a long long time. Even my car, I wasn't this excited.
Anyways, the bike is a 90 Kawasaki FX400R. Its a gorgeous looking bike with a really cool retro/modern mix to the body. It sounds beautiful and it almost feels like its made for me. Does that sound weird or what? Like I said I am extremely excited. Anybody here heard of this bike and how it handles? I havnt test driven it yet, but I know for a fact that it is in immaculate condition so I am not too worried about it. (Infact, I don't even have my bike license so I cant even take it out for a ride even if I wanted too.) Here are some pics, and any feedback on this bike is most welcome. Infact, I want some.

Erm, don’t know if the feedback will be welcome.
I have one; I’d say it handles pretty poorly.
Now mine has a leaky right fork seal which may well be the reason, but I suspect the springs are also getting quite tired after all these years – and I doubt the handling when it was brand new would be considered great really.
However, it may still feel great to you, even if yours is a bit tired. I have been riding a brand new Triumph 675 around a track recently, but then I have had plenty of other old bikes poor handling bikes in the past as well .
Note that a bike in ‘showroom’ condition does sometimes worry me – it suggests the bike has been cleaned well recently, but doesn’t say anything about how well it actually works. |

Hey,
Thats basically a GPZ400R minus a fairing. If its anything like my GPZ400R your gonna have a lot of fun on it.
They handle very very well, have nice brakes and nice suspension (The rear shock has adjustable ?preload? the front is air adjustable too)
Reliability is excellent. I ran mine into the ground last year (I really wish i hadnt ) and whatever i threw at it, it just kept on going.
Parts availaiblity is a bit thin but i've always got parts off the 600R and they've fitted fine (Bar some engine components).
The other problem i've found is with the standard exhaust system. If you dont maintain it it will drop to bits very quickly, due to it being made of mild steel.
Well done on picking a great bike Your gonna love it.
Cheers,
Shaun |
