I was out on my beasty CG125 today riding around my normal routes in Manchester centerish, this dude in a Bmw 318 followed me literally waaaay too close at about 45 - 50 then he over took me the road was a 40 anyway he accelated hard and nearly went on to the 30 zone which was literally 100 yards away, which also has a nasty yellow camera and he braked like a maniac... then I went passed him on the next set of lights as someone in his lane (the road is 2 lanes at this point) was waiting to turn right... What the hell do they bloody want?? He probably wanted to be able to say: Yee I overtook a CG125 with a L plates today, look at me...wooo... nobcheesefaced-cockwashin-shitbitch... argh.... I feel better now

P.S. Who sells learner L plates with a bracket, as my front one fell off today... any bike shop Im guessing? tesco?

Many drivers have a problem in which they see an L plate they decide they'd be better off ahead of it. So will go to any lengths to overtake them.

I had a good one recently, in which leaving a 30 zone I accelerated up to 60 as fast as I could, Being a road that is quite bad for drivers coming at you in your lane I was focusing ahead, I did a quick check in my mirrors and found a car that seemed to be trying to overtake me but wasn't gaining on me at all, it wasnt until I turned round and waved the stupid woman back into her lane that she did, she seemed to be pretty intent on heading into a blind chicane in the wrong lane Rolling Eyes

don't worry about it, he probably got a speeding ticket Wink

I love the twats that go into your 2 second gap making you fall back and then turn L or R 100 yards up the road.
Wankers.

Yeah, some drivers seem to see L-plates as a kind of target mark. And of course like i said before, most car drivers just dont understand that riding a bike is different from driving a car, and that there are other things to think about on a bike.

Many moons ago, when I had a 125 (although I'd passed my test by then), I was sitting at a red light.
I noticed a Capri (anyone rememeber them? Wink ) pulled up behind me.

At the exact point the lights started to change Red/Amber he pulled out from BEHIND me and flew away from the lights.

Obviously the "half second" it took me to click into first was too long. Eh?

I followed him up the road to the next Red light (approx 200yds), as I pulled alongside, I looked in, then pulled in front. In my mirror I saw him giving the "Wanker" sign and mouthing a load of abuse!

Your always gonna get 'em. Rolling Eyes

well, it was quite a busy road and city centre full of red lights and etc, I mean you're not gonna get very far if you overtake 1 little turdy weedy motorbike are you... its not really explainable, I suppose it feels like beating someone at a game, like, haha I showed him what Im capable of... what a total knobhead... I didnt bother trying to prevent the git, he can go as fast as he likes... but the fact that he gained absolutely feck all at the end of it, as he was stuck behind another car just proved his manoeuvre even pointless-er... anyways... i saw his face so he goes on my blacklist... Shocked

Just a quick word of advice about the front L plate... Don't mount it on the plastic 'Honda' badged bar that runs underneath the horn, because it will drag on the top of the front mudguard and ruin the paintwork on it.

wow. someone didnt obey all your expectations. get used to it. it's called life.

edit.

Didnt mean to come over all smug and sarcastic.

Should have added;

Observation observation. Expect the unexpected always. Other road users will not do what you want or expect.

A lot of road users just see red when they see a L plate. It's physcological. Personally I think all L lates should be green. It would stop a majority of rash road antics by motorists trying to get around learners.

Til then you have to keep your wits about you when not under instruction with an ear piece in having the numbers laid out to you by the instructor.

Make good progress and pull over safely or slow down to allow them to overtake if a motorist starts to threaten your saftey.

Try not to get riled/annoyed, it's you life we are talking about not a race or competition.

good luck.

cheers

Although they are vegetable molesting sub species of a donkey scrotum, think of this, when they have gone around you they are no longer a hazard to you..

L plates are probably one of the most dangerous items to a learner, when you pass and take them off you'll be amazed/surprised/disgusted at how differently people react on the road (because remember all most see is a bike, not a 125) same goes for L's on a car to an extent..

When your passed and your in the mood you can have hours of fun slowing right down then speeding off, waiting till there behind and can't get around then slowing down again, and when they finally overtake filter past them in the traffic and make sure to wave Laughing Not big or clever but enjoyable.

With L's I find that folk assume you can't drive and I think that is where it comes from. They automatically think you're going to hold them up so they'll try to pass.

In town this is fine as you can always get away on a 125. In anything over a 40 limit its just dangerous.

I tend to point and laugh as this seems to annoy them the most. Smile
