I think this is ok in General Bike Chat?

Anyway, I have my (second Embarassed ) practical test booked for the 15th March.

Thing is, I'm moving house on the 3rd March.

Could I trust the DVLA to do my address change and send my licence back in a week & a half? Confused

I'm thinking maybe to be cautious and not send it till after my test. I have a mail redirection in place, so there should be no problem getting mail from DVLA, DSA etc.

It's just I don't want to turn up to the test and there be a problem if my licence address isn't current. Shocked

Ideas? Advice? Experience?

Cheers

I was in exactly the same situation, I just waited till after the test, which I passed, and filled in the change of address section on the paper counterpart to the license in the testing station. I just explained that I had recently moved to the examiner.

If worst comes to worst, DVLA can issue a temporary licence form which can be faxed to whoever you need it too... it runs out after a week and the DVLA will only issue it once for free.

Your test centre will accept the form as if it were your full license.

As for your actual problem tho, i'd take the above advice and wouldn't send it off... just explain to the test centre your predicament, or not tell them at all, and change the address after you pass your test. Should make a difference because thay have no way of knowing that the address on your license isn't valid anymore.

I forgot to change my address after about a year, asked my instructor and he said to fill my new address out on the paper part and then hand it to the instructor when you pass your test.

The license came back from the DVLA with my bike entitlement and my address change.

Don't worry about leaving your address change, I would definately do it the above way.

No, from personal experience, tempary licences are fine for CBT;s, but cannot be accepted for full tests - I was in the same position and rang up for a tempary licence but was told by the DVLA and the test center that they wouldn't accept it in the same way, apparently its only for producers

Just leave it and change it afterwards, DVLA will be none the wiser and you've got peace of mind, thats what i did in the end

Cheers everyone, I think that's resounding 'DEAR GOD, NOOOO!!!' on the trusting DVLA question!

I will wait till after my test, and hopefully change the address bit for the examiner to send it to get the 'A' cat added Praying

Fine, ta for asking. Sorted the brakes and she's now running nice. Good job really, since I have to keep hold of her for a bit longer!! Laughing

Be VERY careful when you send your license off, the DVLA wiped off my brothers bike license when he sent it in for points. Apparently they've been doing this a lot. Take a photocopy of the license before you do send it off so that you've got some proof that you have had a bike license!! He took his DAS again because they said he had no proof of having taken it, it wasn't on their system anymore (and no he hasn't collected that many points).

Exactly the same happenned to me. Passed in 1990, had a couple of address changes and somewhere along the line lost my bike entitlement. Had to redo CBT, Theory and DAS last year, which cost me about £400, plus now on my insurance I'm paying more because technically I've had my license less than a year. I'd get a certified photocopy before sending it off to be one safe side.
