OMFG I have just seen the most horrific crash. I think the rider is either badly injured or dead. No joke.

I had some letters to post so I thought I would just pop down the post office and then go for a quick blast afterwards cos then rain has stopped and the ground is reasonably dry.

Going along a local B road, I spot a bike in the distance. Its a W plate Red SV650S (same as SummY's but a year older and his is blue) and I chased him. He buggered off after we got past a Fiesta, came to a crossroads and an Escort pulled out right in front of him. He was doing about 70mph at a guess at the time. The bike disintigrated, and he got flung over the bonnet and landed about 30 yards down the road. The car driver phoned for an ambulance and I stayed with the biker, he was still alive but it wasn't good. I couldn't really hear what he was sayin cos I didn't want to remove his helmet, thats what they always tell ya innit?

Full credit to the ambulance crew, they were there within about 5 minutes. I have tried ringing the hospital but they won't tell me how he is cos I ain't family.

It's proper shit me up, I was only gone about 10 mins. Thats two accidnents involving SV650's round here in the space of a week. Fucking scary.

I suppose I am a bit used to it. My mate crashed his RS50 into the back of a mondeo last year and I ran straight upto him and took off his lid, which the coppers later told me off for. Its made me a better rider though, cos I try to aviod gettin into situations similar to the one my mate ended up crashing in.

He wasn't bleeding but he was screaming in pain. His leather trousers were ripped to shreds, but I suppose they've served their purpose. The paramedic had to cut his glove off cos I think he had snapped his wrist and it was beginning to swell up. Other than that I didn't really check how badly he was injured I just wanted to keep him awake, even if I knew what was wrong with him I wouldn't of had a fucking clue how to help him.

Hi Mate, well done for doing what you did, just do me one favour. (and anyone else reading). Get yourself on a First Aid course, might have been no use, but sometime in the future it might save someone, possibly you or me! I'm sometimes told that people think first aid is crap or nerdy but believe me please, attend one fatal accident and you'll look at it totally differently... especially if (God forbid) it's someone you know.
End of Sermon,
Ride safe

Dear oh dear, its awful to hear about stuff like that.

Lets just hope the rider is OK, and if it wasn't his fault you ought to be a witness for him.

Dickhead driver Evil or Very Mad

do you know if the SV had his lights on? (just out of personal interest, cos you like to think/hope if u have your lights on the wankers will see you)

I remember reading something about crashes saying how you should ease of around junctions, and move out towards the middle of the road so they can see you easier. I know its basic but its easy not to- but especially after hearing that I'm gonna make a point of doing it. I'm not saying it was the riders fault in any way, but everyone's guilty of thinking it only happens to other people. Hope he's alright.

hey, just saw a nasty myself, i live in york and one of the main roads were shut off (accident happened like two hours ago n still is) might be wrong but when i looked there was a 7.5 tonner stood in the middle of the street with a mangled bike proped against some guard rails at a trafic light. its a real shame to see and hear about that kinda stuff Sad

Got off the phone to the hospital a coupla hours ago. Rider is okay, not as bad as I thought. He's got a broken arm in 2 places and a stemline fracture of his ankle, and also a broken rib.

Keen, I am not sure if the SV had its lights on I didn't manage to get in front of it, but at a guess I would say so because his brake light was sorta dim if you know what I mean.

Even if he didn't have his lights on its still no excuse. Try following a standard SV and its loud enough, and this one had an Art race can on.

Fucking idiot car drivers they make me sick.

By the way, forgot to mention earlier that the bacon turned up and said I might be called up as a witness, despite not *actually* seeing the crash. I was checking my mirrors (as I have already explained to Stew) coz some boy racer was right up my arse with his headlights on, next thing I heard was a massive bang and a skidding noise, and looked up and the rest you know. Aparently, I will only be called up for a witness if the driver of the Escort denies liability for the crash.

Might not be all good for the rider though because the forensic unit was there and at a guess they were workin out the speed, and he was doin at least 70mph, which as we know is exceeding the limit, but this shouldn't affect his claim, unless i'm wrong. I dunno, not really in the mood to type anymore.

Its never nice to even hear about a bike accident, let alone see ne. I hope are ok Scooby. Like everyone has said, going on a first aid course really does help, when you're panicing its good to be able to remember what to do - and know that you're doing everything to help - rather than hider.

I hope that the rider is OK, and you're not too shook up.

yeah I fully agree, it just shows the driver was even more of a nob. How can you miss a headlight!? it worries me to think that people drive like that. I was kinda hoping that he didn't have his light on cos it would make me feel safer!

Car drivers still manage to hit other car drivers so it show's a distinct lack of observational skills. Cars make you too complacent.
I think that every learner should spen some time in a car and on a bike.
Car Learners will really wake up and bike learners should get a good insight into how car drivers think/look etc.

Personally I think everyone should have to pass a bike test before they take a car test - will make all the damn car drivers a lot more aware of bikers! Evil or Very Mad

I partially agree with Rob, I've been arguing for a while that a CBT should be part of the car test. Or a specially designed course for people to go on before they can take their driving test, maybe just a day - like a CBT where they have time out on the road on a bike.

hi
its about time ther gouvernment really put bikes in the picture when doing your driving test, i would like to see "shock" tatictics in place for car drivers passing their test. But its nice to hear and see more adverts for biker safety though, and its about time too. The last one was
Think Once, Think twice, Think BIKE, and that was brought out ages ago
