Sorry if this is the wrong section (since I'm not exactly new to biking) - seemed appropriate from the brief descriptions on the main screen..

Anyway, I've been biking for 4 or 5 years now. Started out with a Honda Bros 400, then graduated to a Hornet 600 F, which I like. I've had it a few years now, and the wife is urging me to get something a bit newer (mad, eh?).

My primary use for a bike is commuting to & from work. It's a relatively short trip at about 5 miles each way, but with a fair bit of stop-starting. I don't think an out and out sportsbike would suit so well, and I'm not a big fan of BMWs or the more upright bikes, so I'm currently tending towards an SV 1000S. I like the look of them, and from what I've read, they go and handle well enough. Other option would another Hornet, either a 600 or maybe the 900.

Just wondering whether the SV would be a good progression, and also if there are other broadly similar bikes I should be considering.

Could go for something sports tourery (that a word?) that wouldnt be so bad its uncomfortable over the commute but has a bit of whack for when you want to extend yourself?

Something like a VFR800 or the similar? Dunno maybe still too sporty but its one i can recommend as being pretty comfortable and manageable which a bit of an engine on it when you want it.

And also
