I myself am just about to turn 17, have my plans fully sorted. Going t'take Full A and get a restricted bandit 600, and if all goes well keep the bike legal, I have both the money and patience for this. (any comments/advice appreciated)

I have a friend in a similar situation, he doesnt have much of a budget, he merely wants to get from A-B as quickly as possible. We discussed the matter, and came up with the idea that he could do CBT very close to his birthday (to give him the most time on the 2 years) and buy a cheapish 125, either a Yamaha 2 stroke or a CB125. We are clear about the lack of pillion, but everywhere we have discovered has stated that 'motorways' are not to be used. So does this mean A roads are allowed with learner plates? Dual carriageways? And it is only M roads that are off limits?

Thanks for reading, and for any help in advance.

With just a provisional licence (and CBT) you can use dual carriageways but not motorways.
