I have 18ish days off + 2 bank holidays to use up before 1st May ,

there are only about 20ish working days in april,

whats the law surrounding me effectively taking all of April off?,

I mean to get my entire allocation I effectively have to take all of april of , this may conflict with company policy.

so if the company denies me my legal minimum amount of holiday what happens?, compensation? , me being fired?

I mean if company policy says 2 weeks max, and I've got more or less 4 to use up in 4 weeks , what may happen?.

I keep my cards very close to my chest and therefore don't tell anybody of my plans esp at work .

I'm currently thinking take 2 weeks off , carry over 5 to next year (when I quit in June/July) , but this still leaves me with 5 due to bank holidays

but the recent grind and thoughts of taking my old bike on tour = tons more money to spent = can spend more time on the road,

(the company is exploiting me enough I'm not going to let them do it to my holidays)

Any thoughts?

Thanks

foot note I've been here <1 year as a British worker I therefore have only slightly more than zero rights

Are you not better asking someone in the company that actually knows their policy on this ? Wink

It's up to you to ensure you take your holidays before the end of the holiday year.

Under the Working Time Regulations your employer is not compelled to carry forward any holidays (although he can if he wants to) and he is not allowed to pay you for any untaken holidays unless you leave on that very day.

You are right in that many companies have policy that place restrictions on when you may take hols and how much you may take, you need to check your contract or speak to someone at work to see how you are affected. However, there is a Catch 22 to that in that really if you have that much leave to use up they too should be mainating records and shouldn't really let you in to work during the period!

So, what happens? Nothing really, you have them for denying you your stautory rights, they have you for breach of contract, stalemate.

Find the most sympathetic boss at work and go to them, see how much of a compromise you can reach.

I know this, problem is I've made requests in the past, and each of them have been denied , theres always
somebody who is ill , has a sick child an earth quake a divorce or something stupid which means I have
to cover. Which means I've wanted to take it , but they said no, or they said do this job first and I'll get
this time off for you , promises broken.

Around November last year I just stopped asking for them, expecting them to be denied as per usual.

It is now March , I have tons of holiday left and not enough time to take them all, and will probably be
denied anyway.

twist this a little , what happens if I don't take a single holiday during the year , because each of my requests
has been denied?.

I can make a huge request in April of all of them , which will automatically be denied, I've not broken my
contract in anyway yet they are denying me of my right to time off?

I'm meeting with a manager in a different department tommorow to have a chat about this, I'm pretty sure
the company will say like it or P45 time.

What's a holiday?

I never manage to get round to taking all my entitlement, but I've reached a pretty good informal agreement with my bosses.

I don't take all my holidays. In return, my bosses don't complain (too much Rolling Eyes ) when I need to pick my lads up from school/look after Kel etc etc.

Works out well all round.

Except I've booked five days off in May, which with weekends and Bank Holidays, I'm off for ten days! The panic is setting in already Dance!

Cheers,

Byrnie.

I think you gain days off per month, i.e. 24 days hol per year = 2days/ month, otherwise you could take a month off work in january then not come back = 1 free months work.
