im on an SR50 atm (soon NSR125 next week ) n it does 50 fully derestricted (on a full licence) its the shit heads on cub50's n honda visions that go thrashing around cutting people up n runnin red lights that piss me off

I saw 3 guys in Matlock the other week. All 3 wearing shorts and tee's. They were riding side by side, took up the entire lane and were shoving each other and playing on the road. There was this huuuuuge queue of Bikers behind me but we couldn't get past with these arseholes pissing around. I think just having a CBT shouldn't allow you to fuck about on a scooter. A 125 scoot can still do 60-70 restricted.

You cant call all scooter riders twats ive seen quite a few people on big bikes that act just as badly as a few moped riders. A lot of people take the piss and call mopeds shit but for some people thats all they can have, in the grand scheme of things NSR's arent much higher than mopeds. I use my younger brother as an example he's just turned 16 and has managed to blag a scooter out of my dad....anyway when i go out with him hes probably one of the safest riders i know, he also wants to get a bigger bike when he's allowed to so in my opinion moped riders should be given the benefit of the doubt unless they've got Pizza Hut plastered everywhere

now I agree with Curry. Everyone can go mad. But scooter riders eem to be notoriously bad. Most of them have only done the CBT so know nothing of the road. I know the same can be said for bikes, but bikes are a little harder to control and generally demand more respect.
I don't know many bikers who have a provisional and who aren't taking lessons. But I know pleny of Scooters riders who don't care about lessons or going up, they're quite happy to piss around on the roads and give a bad name to "Bikers" as some people can't distinguish between a bike and a scoot.
The scoots I have ridden all feal too easy. You don't feel like you're in control of a machine.

Scooter riders only have a cbt so dont know anything of the road?? Well it doesnt matter if youve done a full test, no test or a cbt the only way you will become more aware of the road is riding more. Fair enough there are bad scooter riders around but my point is that there are bad bikers aswell so to sit there and say scooter riders ride like twats is wrong. Anyway enough sticking up for scooter riders im gonna get out of here before i start getting chased by people with large bats

i used to have a ped i respected bigger bikes and didnt get in the way well now theres nothing better than being the rider of abigger bike shoothing past at 100mph whatching a sad little ped ride with his chin on the handle bars dreaming of reaching 60mph quite satisfying

yes there are a lot of stupid scoot riders out there

i however dont like to consider myself one of them, i always wear my leather jacket and gloves no matter what the whether (unless goin to or coming home from school)

i always move over for bigger bikes if i see them in my mirror, 90% of the time they change lanes to overtake but im sure they appreciate the thought

and yes i feel scoots are too easy to ride, i feel like im kind of cheating, cos its so simple

what does annoy me however, is people who have no respect for you, cos they consider a scoot nothing more than a glorified push bike, it takes a long time to gather experience for road riding, and i wish more people would accept this

I dunno about scooter riders being twats- I expect some litre-bike riders think that us 125 riders are twats, nipping about and trying to take them on all the time ( ) so maybe we should all just have a little respect for one-another. Bikers get enough stick from everyone else without getting it off each other.

When it comes to scooters being dangerous I remember my Dad telling me when I was 16 and after a scooter (turned out I couldn't afford it at the time anyway) that scooters (mopeds not 125s) are dangerously under-powered for anywhere other than town centres. On 60 limit roads they are just dangerous cos people are always overtaking you and getting pissed off with you. If someone overtakes you dangerously and something comes the other way, is he gonna have a head-on collision and die or just pull in and take you out?

I don't think Scooters are inherently unsafe - it all comes down to the spod that's riding it.

I had a 100cc scoot for 2 years, always wore decent clothes, boots, gloves (except once when I wore a tee, got spectacular sunburn and very much learnt my lessson!) - never rode like a twat, always got out the way of bigger bikes, was basically a model of decorum Only had about 3 close shaves when prats in cars tried to kill me, which isn't bad for about 12,000 kms clocked up riding around central London. I put that down to not riding like a nutter, being the one to avoid the accident rather than the one who causes it.

Now I've got a bigger bike (CB500) I'm putting all the scootering experience to good use, and I have the advantage that I know what it's like to be on a wee bike, a bigger bike, in a car... it means I can kinda see situations from the perspective of each. Just need to do my HGV now

However, I'd agree that there are a lot of scooter psychos out there - face it, they're cheap, they're easy to ride and a 17 year old boy has no concept of his own mortality or that of others. But I'd rather he was on a scoot than in a Nova... he can do less damage that way. Just wish they'd all fuck off to some nutter insurance company and stop cranking the premiums for the rest of us.
