Hey,
I know this isn't bike related but it allows me to let off a bit of steam.

I failed my car test yet again today, so thats 5 times now!! Im getting sick of it and losing the drive (Excuse the pun) to keep going. The driving was good just messed up a few little bits. Very pissed off about it. But i came home and saw my bike and felt a bit happier.

My bike test went ace, and i knew i would pass first time and i did. The car thing is totally different. I need a licence but it seems so out of reach to me!!! I know how useful a licence is and i know its stopping me from getting jobs.

What kept you going when u failed a few times?

I know theres loads of you who passed first time though (Lucky sods).

Cheers,
Shaun.

Don't give up.
My Mrs was similar to you but believe it or not she's a very competent driver, i'm quite relaxed in the car with her.
It may be nerves, if your nerves get a hold then silly mistakes get made. You'll do it Thumbs Up

Don't lose heart!

I used to work for the DSA and remember dealing with one lady who had taken 26 (!) attempts to pass. God knows what it must have cost her!

My cousin passed on her 13th attempt Shocked Shocked, that was 6 years ago and even now, she darent drive into a town or motorway. Just goes to work and back on the little local roads.

I know quite a few women who wont do the motorway or busy town driving.......it sucks really, I personally think motorway driving should be a required part of the test.

I wouldn't worry, I eventually passed on my 9th attempt. Just nerves.

I sat 8 in a row just as soon as I could book them, then decided to leave it for a few months and change instructor. At that point I passed it with I think, 3 minors.

Since then, I've done defensive driving, advanced driving some fake pass plus thing through work all with no problems. The test environment just got my nerves jangling.

The same examiner failed me 5 times, I remember his name but will refrain from mentioning it. Suffice to say, I still feel he was a pedantic chinless git... Cool

I failed 3 tests, changed instructor and passed 4th time with 1 minor.

It's really really disheartening mate, but seriously mate, keep trying.

what did you fail on this time?
was it the same as you failed last time?
have you stuck with the same instructor?
if yes he/she may be a crap intructor.
is it nerves?
do you get in the car whack a cd in and drive like a twat?
if yes you should have passed already Smile

Shaun,

I passed my car test on the third attempt after I'd finely resigned myself to that fact that I was good enough on the day but I just didn't care anymore. Once I'd stopped putting pressure on myself I found I relaxed and did things "naturally" I adopted a similar attitude earlier this month when I passed my bike test, my DAS instructor had nagged me silly so much so I was fuming in my helmet then I just thought, stuff it! I shut up, put up and did it his way, when I got to the test I just pretended I was with him and the test went by without a hitch, 2 minors and very straightforward.

Incedentally a friend of mine passed 7th time and a girl on the 2Pass Learner Forum passed on her 9th attempt https://www.2passforum.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=30395 don't give up, or as I advised do give up, relax and ease up pressurng yourself. Cool

All the best for next time,
Lee

I just failed my fourth a few days back, got a change of instructor and now driving an ibiza 1.9 turbo diesel which I much prefer to the touchy citroen C2 I was driving before, the cooper S canes them both though.

So hopefully I will pass my 5th in 2 weeks time, and get to drive my cars without L plates, got a rover 214i and an original Mk1 golf gti, the latter of which I am immensely proud of as i got a diamond condition one in black.

Hi the best thing I can recommend is experience.

The same was for me with my bike when I was on Ls for 2 months.

My wife failed her car test first time and I was suprised at (to me) the low standard required to pass the test. (This was about 3years ago)

What I did with the wife is that after she failed her first test, I made her drive everywhere and I mean everywhere.

Everynight (she worked nights) I would make her drive to work and then when I came to pick her up she would drive home. All shopping trips etc she had to do. She then passed 2nd time.

---

I've had a car license for 17 years as I passed at 17, but what bennefited me was strict driving tuition. My wifes instructor wouldn't say boo to a goose. Wheras my instructor was very strict (ex irish policeman), at the end of the lesson he would then talk to my dad and tell him what I was doing wrong. My dad being a typical yorkshireman would drag me out and keep going over stuff till I got it right. I remember (really hating my dad at the time) being shouted at just bloody do it.

Thing is strictness worked for me/it might not for you, I hated being taught to drive, but it worked, I will do the same with my children.

Good luck mate

Don't give up just yet mate, I'm doing my driving lessons at the moment and I know remembering all the little maneuvers and things you need to do is hard but with enough practise I'm sure you'll be fine. If you do decide you have had enough of doing car tests you could always buy an Aixam 500 off of eBay or your loca dealer, those little cars only require a motorcycle license to be driven and they actually look pretty nice in person...

Hey,

Yer i like the look of them little cars, and they seem to be going a bit cheaper on ebay. Seen a few for sub £1000.

It says you need a B1 motorcycle licence i have the full 'A' motorcycle licence.

I think i really need a car licence though. So i should really keep going at it.

Cheers,
Shaun.
