Well I'm fairly new to bikes (on the road) and enjoying it all so far.
I have a TW125, I was going to get a cbr125 but the TW was £500 under the list price from a dealership, so I thought it would be rude not to at only £1300 and 4000 miles and just 2 years old. Very Happy

Finding it pretty good for cornering and comfort, better than I was expecting it to be. Maybe because of the huge tyres it has.

One funny thing I have noticed in the last couple of days is other bikers giving me a nod.
But it only seems to be guys on super bikes who are all dressed for racing. Anyone else find the same thing.

Maybe its pity for my lowly 125 and they remember the days when they started out.

Just find it funny that it seems to be a specific type of bike that I get a nod from.

Anyway DAS course is booked for end of april. Just need to do a theory test when I get a minute.

On another point I just wondered what people think of me getting as a next bike. I like the race rep style the best but my favourite bikes for looks are the Buell range, aggressive naked looks, but they are some serious 1000cc and up bikes, not very insurance friendly. Thumbs Down

Has anyone gone DAS and straight to a large bike without no claims? If so what was the damage like on insurance. Is there any point in fully comp for a bike? Am i correct in thinking that if you break the bike beyond repair or seriously damage it you are pretty much dead or in a hospital unable to ride anyway. Brick Wall Surely 3rd F + T is best for a bike??? I don't know, just paying insurance upests me. Embarassed

Firstly I'm assuming you're over 21 (as you're taking the DAS) but age will play a major factor in insurace. For example a 50year old who's been driving a car is more likely to get insurance on a 1000cc bike than a 21year old who's only just passed.

Level of insurance is all down to personal preference. On my moped I had TPFT but when I get my Fazer in the summer, I will more than likely go Fully Comp (Even if it is going to be 1k+)

Thumbs Up

Yeah I'm nearly 24 and have had car licence since 17 and PSV since 18. I don't think I would really get much out of large cc bike eg 600 plus as my trips are short and by the time It warmed up I'd be there already. I was just saying I like the style and looks of the buell, I wouldn't be able to afford and handle the bike anyway.

A bike that happily did motorway speed would be fine for my needs I think. was thinking of 250 - 400cc but I know everyone will say go bigger. Just the insurance that puts me off going to 600 region, as I know it wouldn't get the use it deserved.

I'm 21 and am looking at getting a Fazer 600. I'm buying mine new (which most people will scream at you about) and the insurance fully comp is £1200, TPFT is only about £480.

I'd say a 600 as you will more than likely find a reason to give it the use it deserves! Weekend/evening rides etc.

If you like the streetfighter look:

- Honda Hornet
- Honda CBF500
- Suzuki SV650
- Suzuki Bandit 650
- Yamaha Fazer

They'd be worth a look at Thumbs Up

I was 32 when i passed, have been in a car since 18 but that counts for very little. After passing i could not get insured on R1, GSXR1000 etc or it was very over the top prices. 600cc were around 800 tpft or £1k plus fully comp. So for the first year i ended up witha Kawasaki GPZ 500 £300 tpft. Once i had a year no claims it made a huge difference and got myself 600 ninja. Also my bike is not garaged but is alarmed thatchem rated this can make a big difference in price. Good luck Thumbs Up

I passed my test 2 weeks ago and upgraded my 125 insurance to my big bike - an ER500. It cost me an extra £92 for the remainder of the policy - 6 months. Not bad going in my opinion & i get a years NCB at the end of it. Not sure what it would have cost me if i was starting a policy out from scratch though.

I went fully comp on my 125 policy as i bought the bike brand new and couldn't afford to take the risk of writing it off with no cover. The 500 is also fully comp.

I find i get less nods now that i no longer have L plates than i did before Surprised

I would say at least a decent 400 for motorway use. Though i have never been on one that big that is what i would gather from reading on heer.

PS. Weedy where did you get that quote for the fazer as i am looking at one of them for when i have passed my test and all my quotes have been loads more than that.(I know im younger but would still like to know)

I got it off of www.moneysupermarket.com just a random quote, but I will however attempt to play insurers off against one another when it comes to actually taking out the insurance Thumbs Up

That was for an 07 FZ6S, garaged, in rural norfolk Thumbs Up

Well was enjoying my bike until today when it cut out 3 times, was always after slowing down and then when you go to pull away it cuts out. Taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully its something simple like dirt in the carb or something. Got a picture of it now.
