PostPosted: 17:39 - 13 Mar 2007    Post subject: On My Bandit last night! Reply with quote

Riding home from a mates house at about 12 o'clock and the roads were incredibly dead so decided to practice my wheeling, rolling at about 5mph loads of throttle, let the accelerator out and bang. The front of the bike lifts about two foot in the air(dont quote me on that, I did not actually have time to get off the bike and measure it).

It was the best wheelie I have ever pulled. The first thing that rushed through my head was it was going to flip so I backed off the accelerator and it then touched down. After that I had the best feeling in the world(yes, better than sex).

My previous best before last night was about a foot high.

Now i am going to practice the length I can do them now.

aah, it was great! Just wish I had a pic. Crying or Very sad

is it the 6 youve got? i found that they do wheelie, but take a little more getting up, say than a sportsbike, or its big brother the 12.

get used to bringing it down softly, i.e when its coming down, give it some gas, it wont come back up it will just soften the blow.

ride "safe"

Steve.

I'm really tempted to have a go with the GPZ, but dunno if it'll wheelie off acceleration alone... or should I try to "clutch it up"??
To date though, I've basically wimped out because of the fear of binning it Rolling Eyes

Never ridden one, but i would expect it would need clutching up, just travel at about 20-30 mph, and as u accelarate, feather the clutch really gently, it will jerk forward but once u get more confident it will start to lift slightly.

gentle steps and you wont flip it, if it comes up to high for you, roll of, but natural instinct will make u lean forward.
Or cover the rear brake.

remember, little steps and just get a feel for it Thumbs Up

I did a great wheelie the other day when me and Ram went for a quick spin. I didn't realise I gave it so much throttle when I let the clutch out...

Oops!

Yeah I expect you will have to dump the clutch to get it up( the front wheel that is). But as Steve said...Start small and get some confidence. Thumbs Up

I popped my wheelie cherry today on the Hornet. My friend Ben was on the back just from the college gates to the bike parking. He wanted a short trip on the back (with a helmet obviously). Went over the first speed hump and then I said to Ben "You ready Ben?" he said yeah, I revved the balls of it and let the clutch go, the front wheel went so high that I kinda scared myself and let go. Then the front wheel dropped and I could hear him laughing and screaming.

When he got off the bike and took his helmet off he said "plus a million man points for that" Was exciting yet stupid. I'm going to practice them tomorrow now without someone on the back.. Should be fun.

My mrs likes the idea of being a Stunt couple, shes well into her horse jumping ect and always eggs me on to wheelie.
I never do long or big ones, just pop the front now and then to keep her happy, totaly in control and "safe"
The fact that she weighs nothing helps matters.

its somtimes fun but i wouldnt do it with sumone on the back untill your comfortable with the front wheel in the air.

Are you doing them in 1st or 2nd gear?

See, last time I tryed my bandit in first I had a massive rattle like something had come off, needless to say I wont be doing it again.
2nd seems to obviously have more 'ompf' but is that worse then trying in 1st gear?

I found this on the bandit, the rattle is the chain, for some reason with chain and sprockets after a while, it comes back, just make sure its propperly adjusted and you should be fine.

Clutch it up, bandits will come up just fine in first with a bit of clutch. Tis more of a lottery off power.

2nd gear wheelies are more smooth & predictable although you will need more revs which i don't like.
I've figured out how much clutch/throttle i need to wheelie in 1st & when i'm in the right mood i can do a decent (pop the front wheel) wheelie. Last good one was a few days ago after overtaking scooter at the lights then popping the front, feels bloody great! Thumbs Up

I've done a few accidental ones that came up high, i overtook a car whilst on the back wheel, & pulled out of a junction then power wheelied past the traffic, happened to fast to be scared so it looked like i meant it. Mr. Green

Only done a couple of accidental wheelies. From the lights, and the wheel came up by about 6-12 inches I think. Got a serious buzz from it and would love to practice more but don't want to scratch my bike.

i've flipped 3 bikes over the years, and its always when you get cocky and say "watch what i can do." These days though i'm a bit more sensible and always COVER THE BACK BRAKE!! Wink

So, roll around 3-4k revs with half the clutch., then dump it!?

As soon as the revs hit 7k with the clutch right out - it dosnt like it
